Every few months, the seasons change into spring, summer, fall, or winter. Inspired by these changes Niantic added Seasons to Pokémon GO back in December 2020. Each Season in the mobile game is three months long and features special events, certain Pokémon appearing more often in the wild (in certain areas and hemispheres), refreshed Egg pool, and more. Instead of being named after the spring, summer, fall, or winter seasons, each Season in Pokémon GO is named after an idea/theme.

For August 2023, a new Season has begun and it’s called Adventures Abound.

What is the Season of Adventures Abound?

The Season of Adventures Abound is Pokémon GO’s 12th in-game Season and starts on Friday, September 1st, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time. During this Season, Niantic will begin to add Pokémon from the Paldea region (featured in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet). Plus, given the theme, Niantic is also promoting the Routes feature that was added in the previous season (Season of Hidden Gems).

When is the Season of Adventures Abound?

The Season of Adventures Abound takes place over three months – starting on Friday, September 1st, 2023 at 10 a.m. and ending on Friday, December 1st, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time.

What is the focus of the Season of Adventures Abound?

The focus of the Season of Adventures Abound is, well, adventuring. We’ll see more Pokémon debuting in-game (mainly from the Paldea region) as well as shiny versions, Shadow versions, shiny Shadow versions, and more. Plus, select locations around the world will be having in-person events – Pokémon GO City Safari. Similar to previous in-person Safari events, the City Safari versions will have Trainers going on a citywide exploration. So far these events will be held in Seoul, South Korea, Barcelona, Spain, and Mexico City, Mexico. For more information, you can check out the Pokémon GO City Safari page.

Are there any new features being added during the Season of Adventures Abound?

On the official Season of Adventures Abound site, Pokémon debuts and some permanent game changes are currently listed. There might be more features added as the season progresses.

Pokémon debut: Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly, Lechonk, and more

A plethora of Paldean Pokémon will be arriving in Pokémon GO during the Season of Adventures Abound. So far we know:

  • Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly, Lechonk, and all their evolutions will be debuting during the A Paldean Adventure event in early September.
  • Nymble, Pawmi, Bombirdier, Frigibax, and all their evolutions will be debuting during the Ultra Unlock: Paldea event in early/mid-September.

Shadow Pokémon debut: Shiny Shadow Kanto Legendary Birds? (Zapdos Edition)

Shadow Articuno debuted during the Season of Hidden Gems. While we didn’t see Shadow Zapdos and Shadow Moltres swoop in, one has made an appearance in the Season of Adventures Abound teaser trailer. At some point during the season, Trainers might find Shadow Zapdos in Five-Star Shadow Raids. And if Trainers are lucky, they might even catch a shiny version of Shadow Zapdos!

Reminder – PokéStop Showcases

Debuting during the Season of Hidden Gems, PokéStop Showcases are Pokémon GO’s version of Pokémon Contests. Trainers can show off a Pokémon at PokéStops that are actively hosting Showcases (not all PokéStops will be hosting these events). There, a Showcase’s theme and rules can be viewed and Trainers can submit a Pokémon that qualifies for the Showcase (i.e.: the biggest Squirtle). For more information about PokéStop Showcases, you can read the official Pokémon GO blog post detailing the feature.

Reminder – Routes

Rolling out across the globe, Routes is a new gameplay feature in Pokémon GO. Take walking tours from Gyms and beyond to explore your hometown, cities, and more. Plus, you might just find some Zygarde Cells in your travels. For more information on Routes, you can check out the dedicated Routes info page on the official Pokémon GO website.
