Team GO Rocket is back for their quarterly themed event in Pokémon GO. Similar to the previous season’s event, there will be a change in Shadow Raids, including Five-Star Shadow Raids. Say goodbye (for now) Shadow Raikou, as Shadow Mewtwo returns! But for only one weekend. Still, Trainers can look forward to challenging Team GO Rocket Boss Giovanni to rescue Shadow Groudon from him, hatch a Shiny Sandile, and more. Pokémon GO’s Season of World of Wonder – World of Wonders: Taken Over

Begins: Wednesday, March 27th, 2024 at 12 a.m. your local time.

Ends: Sunday, March 31st, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. your local time.

 

Pokémon debuts – Shadow Pokémon

 

 

Team GO Rocket will have some new Shadow Pokémon at their command for this event.

Team GO Rocket Grunts:

  • Shadow Pidgey
    • When caught, Trainers will be available to evolve their Shadow Pidgey into a Shadow Pidgeotto and Shadow Pidgeot (provided they have the right amount of Pidgey Candies).
  • Shadow Darumaka
    • When caught, Trainers will be available to evolve their Shadow Darumaka into a Shadow Darmanitan (provided they have the right amount of Daruamaka Candies). (Shadow Darmanitan will also be available in Zen and Standard Modes.)
  • Shadow Gothita
    • When caught, Trainers will be available to evolve their Shadow Gothita into a Shadow Gothorita and Shadow Gothitelle (provided they have the right amount of Gothita Candies).
  • Shadow Solosis
    • When caught, Trainers will be available to evolve their Shadow Solosis into a Shadow Duosion and Shadow Reuniclus (provided they have the right amount of Solosis Candies).

Team GO Rocket Leaders:

  • Shadow Machop*: Team GO Rocket Leader Cliff will have Shadow Machop as their first Pokémon and will be featured as the catch reward encounter.
  • Shadow Cacnea*: Team GO Rocket Leader Arlo will have Shadow Cacnea as their first Pokémon and will be featured as the catch reward encounter.
  • Shadow Trapinch*: Team GO Rocket Leader Sierra will have Shadow Trapinch as their first Pokémon and will be featured as the catch reward encounter.

Team GO Rocket Boss Giovanni:

  • Shadow Groudon: Via the Special Research released at the start of this event, Team GO Rocket Boss will be battling with Shadow Groudon. If you defeat him in battle, you’ll be able to capture Shadow Groudon.

 

In addition to these Shadow Pokémon debuts and change-ups, there will also be a Shiny debut during this event:

  • Shiny Sandile: If you’re lucky, you might hatch a Shiny Sandile from a 12 km Egg (which can be obtained when defeating a Team GO Rocket Leader).

Event Bonuses

  • Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons.
  • You can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration.

If any special event boxes or bundles are released during the event, they’ll be listed here once the event is live.

  • GO Rocket Box (315 PokéCoins): 1 Incubator, 1 Rocket Radar, and 1 Premium Battle Pass.
  • Expert Box (650 PokéCoins): 5 Incense, 5 Star Pieces, 5 Lucky Eggs, and 2 Poffins.
  • Veteran Box (1,100 PokéCoins): 5 Fast TMs and 5 Charged TMs.
  • Explorer Box (2,250 PokéCoins): 20 Super Incubators and 100 Poké Balls.

 

The following box will also be available, but only through the official Pokémon GO Web Store:

  • Team GO Rocket Box ($9.99): 7 Rocket Radars, 7 Premium Battle Passes, 7 Ultra Balls, and 7 Silver Pinap Berries.

Wild Encounters

  • The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild: Murkrow*, Sableye*, Purrloin*, Scraggy*, and Inkay*.
    • If you’re lucky, you might encounter the following Pokémon: Zorua*, Vullaby*, and Deino*.

The following Pokémon will be hatching from Eggs that are obtained during the event:

  • 12 km Eggs
    • 1-Egg Rarity: Sandile*, Pawniard*, Larvitar*, Vullaby*, Deino*, Pancham*, Salandit, and Varoom.

Raids

Standard and Shadow Raids will be active during the event.

 

Standard Raids

The following Pokémon will be appearing in Raids:

  • One-Star Raids: Shadow Drowzee*, Shadow Poliwag*, Shadow Barboach, and Shadow Foongus.
  • Three-Star Raids: Shadow Hitmontop, Shadow Wobbuffet, and Shadow Sneasel*.
  • Five-Star Raids: Tapu Koko* (See Additional Notes).
  • Mega Raids: Mega Sceptile* (See Additional Notes).

 

Shadow Raids

The following Pokémon will be appearing in Shadow Raids:

  • One-Star Shadow Raids: Shadow Alolan Sandshrew, Shadow Murkrow*, Shadow Pineco*, and Shadow Croagunk.
  • Three-Star Shadow Raids: Shadow Scyther*, Shadow Skarmory, and Shadow Golett.
  • Five-Star Shadow Raids: Shadow Mewtwo* (See Additional Notes).

Featured Attack for Tapu Lele

Tapu Lele will know the attack Nature’s Madness (Charged Attack) when caught from Five-Star Raids between Thursday, March 21st, 2024, at 10 a.m. to Thursday, April 4th, 2024, at 10 a.m. your local time. This attack can also be learned when using an Elite Charged TM.

 

Timed Research – Free and Paid

There will be two Timed Research quests available during this event. One will be free and one is a paid ticket.

 

Free Timed Research – World of Wonders: Taken Over

A free Timed Research quest will be active during the event. Rewards include items and encounters with event-themed Pokémon.

Paid Timed Research – Chasing Team GO Rocket Timed Research

During the World of Wonders: Taken Over event, Trainers can purchase a ticket to access an event-themed Timed Research. For US$1.99 OR US$2.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll get the Chasing Team GO Rocket Timed Research which rewards Trainers with the following items (if tasks are completed within the time limit): Pawniard* Encounter, 1 Super Incubator, 1 Rocket Radar, and 6 Mysterious Components.

Sales for this Timed Research will end on Saturday, March 30th, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. your local time. According to Niantic, “[t]ickets are nonrefundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service).” Tickets can also be gifted to Trainers you’re friends with provided that you have a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with them. This can be done via the in-game shop and by selecting the “Gift” button instead of the “Buy” button. Tickets purchased for friends are nonrefundable as well.

Please keep in mind that Timed Research quests have deadlines. Trainers must complete this Taken Over Timed Research and claim all rewards before Sunday, March 31st, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. your local time.

During the event, PokéStop Showcases will be active. The theme of these contests is to submit the biggest Pokémon (either a specific Pokémon or Pokémon that are a specific type).

Avatar Items

The Poké Ball Throw Pose that was only available from completing the paid Taken Treasures Timed Research ticket (available in January 2024) will be released during this event. The Avatar Pose will be available for purchase (with PokéCoins) via the in-game shop. This pose will still be available to purchase after the conclusion of this event.
