May Day is a celebratory day with a fascinating history. Originally meant to celebrate the change of the seasons, the May 1st holiday has changed over the last 100 years to celebrate laborers and workers’ rights. In the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, this translates into Tom Nook giving the island representative and residents a slight reprieve with a free May Day tour.
How to participate in the May Day event
Available from May 1st through May 7th, Tom Nook has left a May Day Ticket at Dodo Airlines. Talking to Orville, he will mention that he has your ticket; you can use it by selecting the “I want to fly!” answer followed by the “Use May Day Ticket.” choice. Before boarding for your May Day Tour, you will have to leave your inventory behind, tools and all. DAL will hold onto your belongings and return them to you when you arrive back home.
A relaxing getaway is just a flight away, but it turns out Mr. Nook’s May Day Tour isn’t a “sit and relax on the beach” kind of trip – it’s a maze! Utilizing the hedges and shrubs from the Version 1.2.0 update, you’ll have to maneuver your way through a tricky maze, picking up a shovel, worn axe, native fruit, and materials to make an axe to reach the end. Luckily, you can reset the maze at any time via the “! Rescue Service” app if you get stuck or want to play the maze again!
What prizes can you get from the May Day event?
You can earn 10 prizes in total from the Animal Crossing: New Horizons May Day event:
- Rover’s briefcase
- Nine Bell vouchers
Rover’s briefcase is a decorative item that doesn’t do anything special, but it’s exclusive to this event, so don’t miss out on it! The nine Bell vouchers, meanwhile, can be sold to Timmy and Tommy Nook for a total of 27,000 Bells.
Navigating the maze and finding Rover
Throughout the May Day Tour maze, there are some goodies scattered around as well as a familiar face camping at the end. Rover, a beloved cat NPC who would greet new players in Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, was nowhere to be found at the beginning of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Luckily, his arrival was only slightly delayed and we can briefly visit the roaming cat! Upon completing the maze, talk to Rover and he’ll end up giving you a new item, Rover’s briefcase. You’ll be able to take this gift back home and up to a total of nine Bell vouchers that are scattered throughout the maze. Four will be nearby Rover, but the other five are stuck behind three rocks and proper fruit management will be needed to get them!
Once you are done with the May Day Tour and want to leave, Wilbur will take Rover’s Briefcase from you as well as any Bell vouchers. Any items that you picked up on the island – tools, shrubs, flowers, materials, etc. – will be left behind. After leaving the May Day Tour, you will not be able to return to the island.
Upon landing back at home, your inventory before-flight will be back and you will have up to two letters from DAL sitting inside your mailbox. You can also talk to Tom Nook and tell him whether or not you enjoyed this event.
