Every few months, the seasons change into spring, summer, fall, or winter. Inspired by these changes Niantic added Seasons to Pokémon GO back in December 2020. Each Season in the mobile game is three months long and features special events, certain Pokémon appearing more often in the wild (in certain areas and hemispheres), refreshed Egg pool, and more. Instead of being named after the spring, summer, fall, or winter seasons, each Season in Pokémon GO is named after an idea/theme.

For December 2023, a new Season has begun and it’s called Timeless Travels.

What is the Season of Timeless Travels?

The Season of Timeless Travels is Pokémon GO’s 13th in-game Season and starts on Friday, December 1st, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time. During this Season, Niantic will revisit the Sinnoh region and continue to add Pokémon featured in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Niantic is also promoting Routes, Showcases, and Party Play features that were added in the previous seasons (Season of Hidden Gems and Season of Adventures Abound).

When is the Season of Timeless Travels?

The Season of Timeless Travels takes place over three months – starting on Friday, December 1st, 2023 at 10 a.m. and ending on Friday, March 1st, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time.

What is the focus of the Season of Timeless Travels?

The focus of the Season of Timeless Travels is celebrating the Sinnoh region. Hisuian Pokémon will be featured and added to the game (mainly the Hisuian versions of Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Starter Pokémon’s final forms). Also, the Pokémon GO Tour event taking place in February 2024 will be Diamon and Pearl-themed.

Are there any new features being added during the Season of Timeless Travels?

On the official Season of Timeless Travels site, Pokémon debuts and some permanent game changes are currently listed. There might be more features added as the season progresses.

Pokémon debut: More Pokémon from Hisui

We’ve seen a variety of Pokémon that debuted in the Hisui region (in the Pokémon Legends: Arceus game) in Pokémon, but there are still a few missing. Notably, Hisuian Samurott, Hisuian Decidueye, and Hisuian Typlosion will be introduced into Pokémon GO. We may also see more Hisuian Pokémon during Pokémon GO Tour: Sinnoh in February as well as Shiny version debuts of previously added Hisuian Pokémon (like Hisuian Sneasel in the Along the Routes event in early December). As of Wednesday, January 10th, 2024, it’s been confirmed that Dialga (Origin Forme) and Palkia (Origin Forme) will debut during Pokémon GO Tour: Sinnoh.

Shadow Pokémon debut: Shiny Shadow Ho-Oh

As teased in a trailer for the Season of Timeless Travels, Shadow Ho-Oh will appear at some point during the season. Until then, Shadow Zapdos will be back in December 2023.

Reminder – Party Play

A new multiplayer feature that debuted during the Season of Adventures Abound, Party Play allows up to four Trainers (must be level 15 and above) to play together and tackle a variety of Party Play challenges. For more information about this feature, you can check out the official Pokémon GO Party Play feature page.

Reminder – PokéStop Showcases

Debuting during the Season of Hidden Gems, PokéStop Showcases are Pokémon GO’s version of Pokémon Contests. Trainers can show off a Pokémon at PokéStops that are actively hosting Showcases (not all PokéStops will be hosting these events). There, a Showcase’s theme and rules can be viewed and Trainers can submit a Pokémon that qualifies for the Showcase (i.e.: the biggest Squirtle). For more information about PokéStop Showcases, you can read the official Pokémon GO blog post detailing the feature.

Reminder – Routes

Rolling out across the globe, Routes is a new gameplay feature in Pokémon GO. Take walking tours from Gyms and beyond to explore your hometown, cities, and more. Plus, you might just find some Zygarde Cells in your travels. For more information on Routes, you can check out the dedicated Routes info page on the official Pokémon GO website.

What is the Special Research Story for the Season of Timeless Travels?

There are currently two Special Research Stories that have been released during the Season of Timeless Travels. The first is tied to Mateo’s arrival in Pokémon GO during the Along the Routes event and it’s called A Route to New Friendships. The second Special Research Story will be released at the start of the Adamant Time event and will focus on the Hisui region. More steps will be released during the Lustrous Odyssey event.

Also, another Timed Research will be released to close out 2023. This Timed Research will be made available at the start of the Adamant Time event and will focus on Trainer levels. Trainers can partake in this Timed Research until Sunday, December 31st, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. your local time. Full details about this Timed Research will be included here once it is available in-game.

Is there a month-long paid Timed Research available for purchase during the Season of Timeless Travels?

Yes, there will be three month-long paid Timed Researches available during the Season of Timeless Travels. Yet, these Timed Research quests are tied to paid and monthly released Eggs-pedition Access tickets (as stated by Niantic: “At the start of each month in Timeless Travels, Trainers will be able to purchase a new ticketed experience that includes bonuses and Timed Research!”). Each month will reward Trainers with XP, Stardust, and encounters with Pokémon that can be found in Hisui (Gible for December, Togetic for January or February, and Hisuian Growlithe for January or February).

Each monthly Eggs-pedition Access ticket costs US$4.99 OR US$5.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency). All tasks and rewards must be claimed by a specific date and time and tickets will only be available until two days prior at the end of the month (i.e.: Friday, December 29th, 2023 at 8 p.m. your local time).

The bonuses and complete Timed Research tasks can be found on the individual guide pages for each month:

Is there a region-exclusive Timed Research issued during the Season of Timeless Travels?

Currently, it doesn’t appear that a region-exclusive Timed Research has been released. If that changes during the Season of Timeless Travels, this section will be updated.

Will there be a Partner Research available during the Season of Timeless Travels?

No, but Niantic has referred to the early access to the Holiday Sweater with Scarf Avatar Item as also giving Trainers Partner Research (via the Winter Holiday Part 1 event blog post). That information appears to be incorrect.

What are the bonuses for the Season of Timeless Travels?

The following bonuses will be active during the entire Season of Timeless Travels:

  • Increased XP for a seven-day PokéStop spin streak.
  • Increased XP and Stardust for a seven-day Pokémon catch streak.
  • One additional Candy when trading Pokémon.
  • Trainers level 31 and above will receive one guaranteed Candy XL when trading Pokémon.
  • Trainers level 31 and above will have a higher chance to receive Rare Candy XL from in-person Five-Star Raids.
