The team leaders of Pokémon GO have been getting their own events in the Season of Rising Heroes. Now that we’ve entered the final month for this particular season, it’s finally time for Team Instinct Leader Spark and Team Valor Leader Candela to have their events. Spark will go first, and similar to Blanche’s event, there’s a new Costumed Pokémon to be rewarded as a catch encounter during an event-exclusive Special Research Story.

Unlike Team Mystic’s event, the Team Instinct one has some truly fantastic event bonuses and incentives. (And this is coming from a Team Mystic member…) We’ll see the debut of Larvesta and Volcarona in Pokémon GO, plus shiny rates have been boosted when hatching 2 km, 5km, and 10 km Eggs (across the board for all Pokémon that can be shiny in those Egg Pools). Time to use those Egg Incubators (unless you’ve hit max Pokémon storage…).

Get all the details for the An Instinctive Hero event with our guide below:

Pokémon GO’s Season of Rising Heroes – An Instinctive Hero

Begins: Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time.

Ends: Monday, May 8th, 2023 at 8 p.m. your local time.

Pokémon debuts – Larvesta, Volcarona, Costumed Elekid, and Shiny Mantyke

Larvesta and its evolved form Volcarona are now available in Pokémon GO! To “catch” Larvesta, you’ll have to get your steps in as the Pokémon can only be found in 2 km, 5 km, and 10 km Eggs (that are obtained at the start of the event). It’s unclear if Larvesta will be a permanent addition to the Season of Rising Heroes’ Egg Pool going forward, even when this event is over, but the wording kind of suggests it. To get Volcarona, you’ll need a pile of Larvesta Candies (400 Larvesta Candies to be exact). Time to hatch a Larvesta, make it your Buddy Pokémon, and feed ’em some Rare Candies?

Those aren’t the only new debuts during this event. Just as Blanche gave Trainers a Lapras wearing a Blanche-themed accessory as a catch reward encounter during A Mystic Hero’s Special Research Story, Spark will do something similar. He’ll be giving Trainers an Elekid wearing a Spark-themed accessory* (referred to as a Costumed Elekid* going forward) as a catch reward encounter if you complete the necessary steps in his Special Research Story.

Lastly, Shiny Mantyke has entered the 7 km Egg Pool. Unfortunately, 7 km Egg won’t have boosted Shiny rates for the event, but this Shiny will be available after the event in future Egg-focused appearances.

Note: Pokémon marked with an * means that “If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny one!”

Event Bonuses

  • 2× XP for hatching Pokémon
  • 2× Stardust for hatching Pokémon
  • Increased chance of hatching Shiny Pokémon from 2 km, 5 km, and 10 km Eggs.

  • One-Star Raids: Ledyba*, Shuckle*, Dwebble*, Joltik, and Grubbin.

Special Research – An Instinctive Hero & Let’s GO! + An Everyday Hero

Following in the footsteps of the A Mystic Hero event, Team Instinct Leader Spark will have his own Special Research Story where Trainers will be rewarded with a special Costumed Pokémon. Also, Niantic is once again reminding Trainers about the earlier released Special Research (where only the first few steps are available to complete).

An Instinctive Hero

An event-exclusive Special Research Story will be available. Similar to the Special Research available during the A Mystic Hero event, Spark will be in charge of the An Instinctive Hero Special Research.
