The yearly Halloween event is back and Pokémon GO and is once again split into two parts. For Halloween Part I, Morpeko and Dynamax Gastly debut. Some Costumed Pokémon will be available early, but they’re paywalled behind two paid Timed Research quests. The Halloween 2024 Part II event will start where Part I event’s ends – on Monday, October 28th, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time. Most of Part I will be active, but with the addition of more Costumed Pokémon encounters, Gigantamax Gengar, and more. (For more details about the Season of Max Out, you can check out our Season of Max Out guide hub.)

Now, check out what’s happening during the Halloween 2024 Part I event with our guide below:

Pokémon GO’s Season of Max Out – Halloween 2024 Part I

Begins: Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time.

Ends: Monday, October 28th, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time.

Pokémon debuts – Morpeko, Dynamax Gastly, and Costumed Pokémon (Froakie, Rowlet, and more)

  • Morpeko: Teased at the end of the 2024 Pokémon World Championships in Honolulu, Hawai’i, Morpeko is now available in Pokémon GO! There is a catch to acquiring this two-sided Pokémon. Morpeko can only be encountered via Field Research tasks and in the GO Battle League via reward catch encounters. Morpeko’s encounter rate will be “more frequent” in the premium track of the GBL (where Trainers use a Premium Battle Pass for better rewards for a set of five battles). After the event ends, Morpeko can be found in reward catch encounters starting at Rank 16 (and the premium track will have the same perk).
    • Morpeko will also be an encounter in the free and paid Timed Research quest (Halloween 2024: Spiritomb Challenge and Morpeko Onesie Premium Timed Research).
    • Full Belly Mode and Hangry Mode can only be changed/switched when battling in the GO Battle League and Team GO Rocket members. This may change in the future.
  • Dynamax Gastly: Trainers can find Dynamax Gastly in One-Star Max Battles. Defeat ’em and you’ll be treated to a reward catch encounter with a Gastly (or even a Shiny Gastly) that can Dynamax and participate in Max Battles.
    • Gigantamax Gengar will appear in Six-Star Max Battles from Thursday, October 31st, 2024 at 10 a.m. to Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 at 8 p.m. your local time.
  • Froakie wearing a Pokémon Halloween costume (Witch Hat) (Costumed Froakie): Available during the Halloween Part II event, this Costumed Froakie is debuting early for Trainers who purchase either of the paid Timed Research quests. This Costumed Froakie can evolve into a Costumed Frogadier and Costumed Greninja (but those evolved forms might not be available until the Halloween Part II event is live).
    • Note: Going forward, these Pokémon will be referred to as “Costumed” rather than the exact outfit they are wearing.
  • Rowlet wearing a Pokémon Halloween costume (Woobat Top Hat) (Costumed Rowlet): Available during the Halloween Part II event, this Costumed Rowlet is debuting early for Trainers who purchase either of the paid Timed Research quests. This Costumed Froakie can evolve into a Costumed Dartrix and Costumed Decidueye (but those evolved forms might not be available until the Halloween Part II event is live).
    • Note: Going forward, these Pokémon will be referred to as “Costumed” rather than the exact outfit they are wearing.
  • Additional Costumed Pokémon: Pikachu wearing a witch hat, Vulpix wearing a Spooky Festival costume, Gengar wearing a Spooky Festival costume, Piplup wearing a Halloween Mischief costume, Drifblim wearing a Halloween Mischief costume, and Pumpkaboo wearing a Spooky Festival costume will return. These Costumed Pokémon will only be available in the paid Timed Research quests during Halloween Part I. These Pokémon, and more, will be available via other methods during the Halloween Part II event.

Event Bonuses

  • 2× Candy for catching Pokémon.
  • Increased chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws or better.
