Initially announced on January 31st, 2020, Niantic announced it would begin testing new types of events during February 2020 – Pokémon Spotlight Hour and Mystery Bonus Hour. After testing and user feedback, Niantic combined both events into one and announced what Pokémon and bonuses would be featured in advance.
Now, in 2024, the weekly event continues and happens every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. (your local time), provided there aren’t any cancellations. In the case of any issues, Niantic will hold a makeup event (i.e.: Snover Spotlight Hour in December 2020). Niantic can also host additional Spotlight Hour events (i.e.: Friday – Monday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. your local time as part of November 2021’s Mischief Unbound event).
What Pokémon is in today’s Spotlight Hour?
The Pokémon for Tuesday, April 1st, 2025’s Spotlight Hour hasn’t been officially announced. This is due to the weekly event happening on April Fools’ Day this year. This holiday gets its own unannounced/”surprise” event (Niantic does not share event details ahead of time, nor when the event starts around the world). Based on information made available, the following Pokémon will be featured during this week’s Spotlight Hour: Voltorb, Hisuian Voltorb, Electrode, Hisuian Electrode, Foongus, Amoonguss, and Galarian Stunfisk. These Pokémon will appear as glowing Poké Balls on the overworld map. There is also a chance that this Poké Balls will give Trainers actual Poké Balls, Great Balls, or Ultra Balls instead.
Can Voltorb, Hisuian Voltorb, Electrode, Hisuian Electrode, Foongus, Amoonguss, and/or Galarian Stunfisk be shiny?
Yes, the following Pokémon can be shiny during this Spotlight Hour: Voltorb, Hisuian Voltorb, Foongus, and Galarian Stunfisk.
As for Electrode, Hisuian Electrode, and Amoonguss, their spawns in the wild will not be shiny.
Are there any bonuses for today’s Spotlight Hour?
Yes, the bonus for today’s Pokémon GO Spotlight Hour is earning twice the Candy for catching any Pokémon and is only active during the event (6 p.m. – 7 p.m. your local time).
