Remember Shemue 3 Enhanced? You know, that updated port of the 2019 original that was announced in 2025? No? Well, I kind of forgot too, so it’s not really surprising to learn that publisher ININ Games has delayed this new version into early 2027 after going quiet on it for so long. Having last spoken of the game in March 2026, it seems ININ wants to make sure that its refinement of Ryo Hazukii’s third adventure is everything it can be before releasing the game into the world.
In a statement given to fan site Shenmue Dojo, ININ writes the following:
“We’re well aware that you’re eagerly awaiting the chance to see Ryo shine like never before, for the first time on several modern consoles. Development is taking time to get everything right, and we’re making great progress while finalizing the last details. We’ll have more details to share with you soon and are looking forward to this release in early 2027!!”
While I occasionally dunk on Shenmue for being a relic of a different era, I understand the legacy the game has, and the devotion fans have given to it. Shenmue 3 was a major disappointment for a lot of fans, so I fully understand not rushing out this enhanced version simply to make a deadline. I don’t foresee this rehash kicking things off for a potential Shenmue 4, but at least fans can have the third entry they’ve always dreamed about instead of what’s currently playable.
