Niantic is celebrating Earth Day once again in Pokémon GO, bringing back the yearly Sustainability Week event. While not exactly a week long, this event will feature a variety of Water-, and Grass-, Rock-type Pokémon. Plus, there will be a variety of Buddy Pokémon-themed bonuses. More importantly, we’ll see a new Pokémon debut!

Pokémon GO’s Season of Rising Heroes – Sustainability Week

Begins: Thursday, April 20th, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time.

Ends: Wednesday, April 26th, 2023 at 8 p.m. your local time.

 

Pokémon debuts – Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena + Shiny Tapu Bulu and Shaymin

 

 

For Sustainability Week, Bounsweet (and its evolution line) will debut in Pokémon GO! Bounsweet will be available to catch in the wild, hatch from 7km Eggs obtained during the event, a reward catch encounter from Timed Research, and possibly available One-Star Raids (currently unconfirmed). As for Steenee and Tsareena, you can only obtain them via evolving Bounsweet and having the required number of Bounsweet Candies.

Also, this event will take place during Shiny Tapu Bulu’s debut in Pokémon GO.

UPDATE: Shaymin will also be available thanks to a free Special Research Story. Trainers will get this Special Research when logging into Pokémon GO starting on Thursday, April 20th, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time.

 

Evolution Notes:

  • Evolve Bounsweet into Steenee with 25 Bounsweet Candies.
  • Evolve Steenee into Tsareena with 100 Bounsweet Candies.

 

Event Bonuses

  • If your Buddy Pokémon is an Ultra Buddy or higher, it will bring you souvenirs more frequently.
  • If your Buddy Pokémon is a Great Buddy or higher, it will bring you leaf-wrapped gifts more frequently. These gifts will contain Berries more often, and they may even contain a Silver Pinap Berry!
  • Your Buddy Pokémon will accompany you on the map longer after being fed.
  • 1/2 distance to earn hearts with your Buddy Pokémon.

 

Event Boxes

If any special event boxes or bundles are released during the event, they’ll be listed here once the event is live.

  • Free Box (added halfway through the event, one-time only redeem): 1 Egg Incubator and 2 Poffins.

 

Wild Encounters

  • The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild: Squirtle*, Shellder*, Wailmer*, Drilbur*, Cottonee*, Petilil, Dwebble*, Foongus*, and Froakie.
    • If you’re lucky, you might encounter the following Pokémon: Larvitar*, Binacle*, and Bounsweet.

Eggs

The following Pokémon will be hatching from 7km Eggs that are obtained during the event:

  • 7 km Eggs
    • 1-Egg Rarity: Cherubi*, Drilbur*, and Bounsweet.

Raids

The following Pokémon will be appearing in Raids:

  • One-Star Raids: Ekans*, Snubbull*, Stunky, Venipede*, Swirlix*.
  • Three-Star Raids: Vileplume, Victreebel, Muk, and Whimsicott.
  • Five-Star Raids: Tapu Bulu* (See Additional Notes).
  • Mega Raids: Mega Slowbro* (See Additional Notes).

There will be event-exclusive Field Research Tasks available and the rewards include the following Pokémon encounters: Drilbur*. These Field Research Tasks can be found when spinning PokéStops (and acquired if you have an open slot in your Field Research menu) when the event is active.

Special Research – Grass and Gratitude

 

 

Announced on April 19th, 2023, Niantic is releasing a free Special Research Story to all Trainers. It’ll feature Shaymin (Land Forme), who was previously released during Pokémon GO Fest 2022 events in paid Special Research Stories. (Trainers who previously caught Shaymin during the Pokémon GO Fest 2022 Special Research will get to encounter Shaymin again in this new Special Research.) While not strictly tied to the Sustainability Week event, it is being released when this event starts and does have a nature theme to it.

A complete list of tasks and rewards of this Special Research will be shared here once the event is live. Given the number of steps, it’ll also be included in the Season of Rising Heroes guide page.

Avatar Items

New avatar items themed after Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena will be released during this event. They will be available for purchase (with PokéCoins) via the in-game shop. These avatar items will still be available to purchase after the conclusion of this event.

The new avatar items are the following: Bounsweet Hat, Steenee Shirt, and Tsareena Boots.
