Every few months, the seasons change into spring, summer, fall, or winter. Inspired by these changes Niantic added Seasons to Pokémon GO back in December 2020. Each Season in the mobile game is three months long and features special events, certain Pokémon appearing more often in the wild (in certain areas and hemispheres), refreshed Egg pool, and more. Instead of being named after the spring, summer, fall, or winter seasons, each Season in Pokémon GO is named after an idea/theme.

For September 2024, a new Season has begun and it’s called Max Out.

What is the Season of Max Out?

The Season of Max Out is Pokémon GO’s 16th in-game Season and starts on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time. During this Season, Niantic will debut the Dynamax phenomenon from Pokémon Sword and Shield into Pokémon GO. More Pokémon from the Galar region will also be added to the game.

When is the Season of Max Out?

The Season of Max Out takes place over three months – starting on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024 at 10 a.m. and ending on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time.

What is the focus of the Season of Max Out?

The focus of the Season of Max Out is to “GO Out, GO Big, and GO Wild”. This tagline is featured on the season’s webpage.

  • GO Out: More Pokémon from the Galar region will be added to Pokémon GO.
  • GO Big: Dynamax Pokémon debut in Pokémon GO and are tied to Max Battles, Power Spots, and Max Particles.
  • GO Wild: A new paid ticketed event is happening in November. Dubbed Pokémon GO Wild Area, Niantic hasn’t released too many details about the in-person event in Japan or the global version.

Are there any new features being added during the Season of Max Out?

According to the official Season of Max Out site, the Dynamax feature from Pokémon Sword and Shield will be implemented in Pokémon GO. Due to this a new “Raid” will be available – Max Battles. The breakdown of this new battle system hasn’t been released, yet.

Pokémon debuts – Galar Starters, Shiny Pokémon (Skwovet, Wooloo, Falinks, and more), Dynamax Pokémon (Kanto Starters, Skwovet, and Wooloo), Galar Legendaries, and more

Since the Galar region is being featured, a variety of new Pokémon debuts will be happening throughout the entire Season of Max Out.

  • Galar region Starters: Grookey, Scorbunny, Sobble, and their evolved forms will debut in Pokémon GO at the start of the GO All Out event.
  • Shiny Pokémon: So far, Skwovet, Wooloo, Falinks, Shiny Passimian, and Zacian have been confirmed to have their shiny debuts in Pokémon GO during September. Expect more shiny Pokémon from Galar to be added throughout the season.
  • Dynamax Pokémon: Dynamax Bulbasuar, Dynamax Charmander, Dynamax Squirtle, Dynamax Skwovet, and Dynamax Wooloo debut in Pokémon GO during the GO Big event.
  • Galar Legendaries: Zacian and Zamazenta will be appearing in Five-Star Raids during the season.
  • And more!: Dreepy (and their evolved forms) will debut during the GO All Out event and Hatenna (and their evolved forms) will debut during the Psychic Spectacular event. More Pokémon debuts are speculated later in September and throughout October and November (including Halloween-themed Costumed Pokémon).
    • Stonjourner debuts, but is only available in the United Kingdom.

Max Battles

Pokémon that can Dynamax can only be obtained from defeating them in Max Battles (or via the To the Max! Special Research). More information about Dynamax Pokémon, Max Battles, Max Particles, and more can be found in our dedicated Pokémon GO’s Season of Max Out’s Max Battles, Max Particles, Power Spots, and Dynamax Pokémon guide.

Pokémon GO Wild Area (Japan and Global paid ticketed events)

Prior to the start of the Season of Max Out, Niantic announced a new event – Pokémon GO Wild Area. This paid ticketed event will be happening in Fukuoka, Japan on Saturday, November 16th, and Sunday, November 17th, 2024. The global version will be happening on Saturday, November 23rd, and Sunday, November 24th, 2024. Please stay tuned fore more details.
