Happy Halloween! Following in the footsteps of Gigantamax Venusaur, Gigantamax Charizard, and Gigantamax Blastoise is Gigantamax Gengar! Throughout the weekend, you can find Gigantamax Gengar in Six-Star Max Battles. Trainers who had difficulty with defeating Gigantamax Venusaur, Gigantamax Charizard, and Gigantamax Blastoise during the GO Bigger event will have an easier time facing Gigantamax Gengar. Niantic announced that the difficulty has been changed for this event. (For more details about the Season of Max Out, you can check out our Season of Max Out guide hub.)

Now, check out what’s happening during the Gigantamax Gengar event with our guide below:

Pokémon GO’s Season of Max Out – Gigantamax Gengar

Begins: Thursday, October 31st, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time.

Ends: Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 at 8 p.m. your local time.

Pokémon debuts – Gigantamax Gengar

To get Gigantamax Gengar, you’ll have to find a Six-Star Max Battle featuring the ghostly Pokémon. Make sure that you have at least 3 Pokémon that can Dynamax or Gigantamax plus enough Trainers to enter the battle (the recommended minimum is 10 Trainers).

Once defeated, you’ll be treated to a reward catch encounter with Gigantamax Gengar. After catching this Gengar, you’ll have a Gengar that can undergo the Gigantamax phenomenon. And if you’re lucky, they might even be shiny!

  • 2× Candy for catching Pokémon.
  • Increased chance to encounter Shiny Zorua in the wild.
  • Increased chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws or better.

  • A remix of the Lavender Town music will be playing nightly during this year’s Halloween event.
  • Pokémon encounter backgrounds, PokéStops, and Gyms will be decorated for the holiday during both parts of the Halloween event.

Plus, the following bonuses will be available to Trainers who purchase the Morpeko Onesie Premium Timed Research:

Six-Star Max Battles Information

The only difference with Six-Star Max Battles is the difficulty and the amount of Trainers that can participate in a single Max Battles (the recommended minimum is 10 Trainers, the maximum amount of Trainers is 40) (also, that Gigantamax Pokémon are being featured). You can only bring 3 Dynamax OR Gigantamax Pokémon into battle and you must have 800 MP in order to participate.

For more details on Max Battles (in general), you can check out our Max Battles, Max Particles, Power Spots, and Dynamax Pokémon guide.

Based on player feedback, Max Battles against Gigantamax Gengar will have their difficulty decreased (compared to the GO Bigger event which featured Gigantamax Venusaur, Gigantamax Charizard, and Gigantamax Blastoise).

Community Check-in (via Campfire) for 800 Max Particles

According to the 2024 Community Update blog post (shared on Friday, October 25th, 2024), Trainers who check into a Campfire event during this Gigantamax event can receive 800 Max Particles for free. (It is unclear if these free Max Particles will not count towards the daily limit.) To find the nearest Community group in your area, you’ll have to download Niantic’s Campfire app.
