The countdown to Halloween officially begins in Pokémon GO! While, yes, you could argue that the month-long paid Timed Research (Ticket of Treats) was prepping Trainers for the festivities, it’s this week that the Halloween event finally starts. Once again, this year’s Halloween event has been split into two parts. For this part, we’ll see the debut of a ghostly doggo from Paldea, an influx of Ghost-type Pokémon, a Shiny debut, and more. Keep in mind that some parts of this event (mainly Timed Research) will be continuing on when the Halloween 2023 Part 2 event starts next week. Pokémon GO’s Season of Adventures Abound – Pokémon GO Halloween 2023 Part I
Begins: Thursday, October 19th, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time.
Ends: Thursday, October 26th, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time.
Pokémon debuts – Greavard, Houndstone, Shiny Phantump, and Shiny Trevenant
For the Halloween Part I event, there are a few new additions to Pokémon GO – another Pokémon from Paldea and a Shiny version.
- Greavard: Greavard can be found in Three-Star Raids and as a catch reward encounter in the free Halloween Timed Research.
- Houndstone: To get a Houndstone, you’ll need to have caught a Greavard and gathered 50 Greavard Candies.
- Shiny Phantump: If you’re lucky, you can encounter a Shiny Phantump. During the event, Phantump will be available to encounter via in the wild, Field Research tasks, and unpaid Timed Research, and paid Timed Research.
- Shiny Trevenant: If you’re lucky and catch a Shiny Phantump, you can evolve that Shiny Phantump into a Shiny Trevenant. You’ll need to have 200 Phantump Candies or trade that Shiny Phantump to another Trainer.
Event Bonuses
- 2× Candy for hatching Pokémon.
- Additional Candy for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
- Additional Candy XL for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
- Trainers level 31 and above will receive additional Candy XL for hatching Eggs.
- PokéStops and Gyms will be decorated for the holiday. (Same as last year’s orange overlay and fall motifs.)
- Lavender Town music will play nightly.
Also, the Incense Day: Skorupi event will be taking place on Saturday, October 21st, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. your local time, so the following bonuses will also be active (but only during that time period):
- Incense is more likely to attract Skorupi.
- Increased chance to encounter Shiny Skorupi.
- Daily Adventure Incense lasts twice as long when activated during the event.
Event Boxes
If any special event boxes or bundles are released during the event, they’ll be listed here once the event is live. The following boxes were announced:
- Boo Bundle (495 PokéCoins, no purchase limit): 3 Remote Raid Passes, 1 Star Piece, and 1 Lucky Egg.
- Creepy Crate (725 PokéCoins, no purchase limit): 10 Premium Raid Passes, 2 Star Pieces, and 2 Lucky Eggs.
- Pumpkin Pack (1,550 PokéCoins, no purchase limit): 10 Super Incubators, 5 Incubators, and 2 Incense.
Wild Encounters
- The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild: Ekans*, Zubat*, Alolan Meowth*, Gastly*, Haunter, Spinarak*, Misdreavus*, Poochyena*, Shuppet*, Drifloon*, Litwick*, and Phantump*.
- If you’re lucky, you might encounter the following Pokémon: Sandygast.

The following Pokémon will be hatching from Eggs that are obtained during the event:

Standard and Shadow Raids will be active during the event.

The following Pokémon will be appearing in Raids:
- One-Star Raids: Misdreavus*, Shuppet*, and Drifloon*.
- Three-Star Raids: Gengar*, Sandygast, and Greavard.

- Guzzlord* (until Friday, October 20th, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time).

PokéStop Showcase
During the event, PokéStop Showcases will be active. The theme of these contests is to submit the biggest Pokémon (that is currently featured). The following Showcases will be active during the Halloween 2023 Part I event:
- Shuppet and Banette (Friday, October 20th, 2023 to Sunday, October 22nd, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. your local time)
- Greavard (Monday, October 23rd, 2023 to Wednesday, October 25th, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. your local time)
Stickers
There will be an assortment of event-themed stickers featuring Pikachu (as a ghost balloon and pumpkin), Gengar, Shuppet, Misdreavus, Phantump, and Greavard. You can get them by spinning PokéStops, opening Gifts, and/or purchasing them from Pokémon GO’s in-game shop (with PokéCoins) during the event.
Avatar Items
New avatar items themed after various Ghost-type Pokémon will be released during this event. They will be available for purchase (with PokéCoins) via the in-game shop. These avatar items will still be available to purchase after the conclusion of this event.
The new avatar items are the following: Yamask Mask (200 PokéCoins), Cofagrigus Costume (400 PokéCoins), Cofagrigus Head (200 PokéCoins), Phantump Head (250 PokéCoins), and Greavard Wig (200 PokéCoins). (Note: The Greavard Wig can be obtained for free via the Partner Research: Amazon Prime Gaming.)
Paid Ticket – Eerie Echoes Timed Research
During the Halloween 2023 Part I, Trainers can purchase a ticket to access an event-themed Timed Research. For US$4.99 OR US$5.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll get the Eerie Echoes Timed Research which rewards Trainers with the following items (if tasks are completed within the time limit):
Sales for this Timed Research will end on Monday, October 30th, 2023 at 8 p.m. your local time. According to Niantic, “[t]ickets are nonrefundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service).” Tickets can also be gifted to Trainers you’re friends with provided that you have a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with them. This can be done via the in-game shop and by selecting the “Gift” button instead of the “Buy” button. Tickets purchased for friends are nonrefundable as well.
Please keep in mind that Timed Research quests have deadlines. Trainers must complete this Timed Research by Tuesday, October 31st, 2023 at 8 p.m. your local time.

To receive all the rewards, Trainers must complete the research tasks before December 25, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. PST.
