Initially announced on January 31st, 2020, Niantic announced it would begin testing new types of events during February 2020 – Pokémon Spotlight Hour and Mystery Bonus Hour. After testing and user feedback, Niantic combined both events into one and announced what Pokémon and bonuses would be featured in advance.
Now, in 2024, the weekly event continues and happens every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. (your local time), provided there aren’t any cancellations. In the case of any issues, Niantic will hold a makeup event (i.e.: Snover Spotlight Hour in December 2020). Niantic can also host additional Spotlight Hour events (i.e.: Friday – Monday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. your local time as part of November 2021’s Mischief Unbound event).

The Pokémon for Tuesday, February 27th, 2024’s Spotlight Hour are Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew.

Are there any bonuses for today’s Spotlight Hour?
Yes, the bonuses for today’s Pokémon GO Spotlight Hour are earning twice the Candy for transferring Pokémon and boosted rates for earning Candy XL when transferring Pokémon. These bonuses are only active during the event (6 p.m. – 7 p.m. your local time).
Note: Niantic initially announced that there would be boosted rates for earning Rare Candy XL, but corrected that that detail was made in error. They meant Candy XL instead.
