Happy Lunar New Year! This year it’s the Year of the Dragon. For Pokémon GO, that means we’ll see at least one Dragon Pokémon debut in the mobile title and see a variety of dragon-themed Pokémon be featured. Pokémon GO’s Season of Timeless Travels – Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed
Begins: Monday, February 5th, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time.
Ends: Sunday, February 11th, 2024 at 8 p.m. your local time.
Pokémon debuts – Drampa
To celebrate the year of the dragon, Drampa from the Alola region will finally be available in Pokémon GO! You can find Drampa in Three-Star Raids and select Field Task Reward encounters.
Event Bonuses
- Additional Candy for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
- Increased chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
- Increased chance for Lucky Pokémon in trades.
- Increased chance to become Lucky Friends.
A Global Challenge will also be available during the event. If Trainers can throw 1,000,000,000 Nice Throws altogether, the following bonuses will be unlocked:
- Festive fireworks will light up the skies.
- Additional Wild Encounters (seven different Pokémon species that haven’t been featured already).
- Featured attacks for five different Pokémon.
- An additional Pokémon appearing in One-Star Raids.
- An additional Pokémon appearing in Three-Star Raids.
Also, this event will overlap with the Hisuian Decidueye Raid Day event on Sunday, February 11th, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. your local time, so the following bonuses will also be available:
- Receive up to five additional free Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs.
- The Remote Raid limit will be increased to 20 on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, from 4 p.m. to Sunday, February 11th, 2024, 7 p.m. PST.
- Increased chance to encounter Shiny Hisuian Decidueye.
- Hisuian Decidueye will appear more frequently in raids!
Event Boxes
If any special event boxes or bundles are released during the event, they’ll be listed here once the event is live:
- New Year’s Box (525 PokéCoins, no purchase limit): 3 Premium Battle Passes, 2 Remote Raid Passes, and 3 Silver Pinap Berries.
Wild Encounters
- The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild: Magikarp*, Dratini*, Shuckle*, Fennekin*, Skrelp*, and Noibat*.
- If you’re lucky, you might encounter the following Pokémon: Jangmo-o.
- The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild if the Global Challenge is met: Bagon*, Gible*, Darumaka*, Axew*, Deino*, Tyrunt*, and Falinks.

Raids
Standard and Shadow Raids will be active during the event.
Standard Raids
The following Pokémon will be appearing in Raids:
- One-Star Raids: Dratini*, Deino*, and Goomy*.
- Global Challenge reward One-Star Raid: .
- Three-Star Raids: Druddigon*, Turtonator*, and Drampa*.
- Global Challenge reward Three-Star Raid: Salamence*.
- Five-Star Raids: None.
- Mega Raids: Mega Latias* and Mega Latios* (See Additional Notes).
Shadow Raids
The following Pokémon will be appearing in Shadow Raids:
- One-Star Shadow Raids: Shadow Machop*, Shadow Cubone, Shadow Teddiursa*, and Shadow Trapinch.
- Three-Star Shadow Raids: Shadow Porygon, Shadow Houndour, and Shadow Sableye*.
- Five-Star Shadow Raids: Shadow Articuno* (See Additional Notes).

- Standard Raids:
- Mega Latias* and Mega Latios* will be available after the event (in Mega Raids), until Thursday, February 15th, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time.

- One- and Three-Star Shadow Raids will be available daily.
- Five-Star Shadow Raids will be available on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), unless otherwise stated by Niantic.
Featured Attacks for Flygon, Garchomp, Altaria, Salamence, and Noivern
Five different Pokémon can learn specific featured attacks if the Global Challenge is met. Details for these five Pokémon, the attacks, and the attacks’ stats will be added here once the bonus is unlocked.
- Flygon
- Evolve Vibrava (Trapinch’s Evolution) to get a Flygon that knows Earth Power (Charged Attack).
- Garchomp
- Evolve Gabite (Gible’s Evolution) to get a Garchomp that knows Earth Power (Charged Attack).
- Altaria
- Evolve Swablu to get an Altaria that knows Moonblast (Charged Attack).
- Salamence
- Evolve Shelgon (Bagon’s Evolution) to get a Salamence that knows Outrage (Charged Attack).
- Noivern
- Evolve Noibat to get a Noivern that knows Boomburst (Charged Attack).
Field Research Tasks
There will be event-exclusive Field Research Tasks available and the rewards include the following Pokémon encounters: Dratini*, Trapinch*, Swablu*, Gible*, Darumaka*, Druddigon*, Deino*, Skrelp*, Tyrunt*, Goomy*, Turtonator*, and Drampa*. These Field Research Tasks can be found when spinning PokéStops (and acquired if you have an open slot in your Field Research menu) when the event is active.

PokéStop Showcase
During the event, PokéStop Showcases will be active. The theme of these contests is to submit the biggest Pokémon or Pokémon type being asked:
- Monday, February 5th, 2024 at 10 a.m. to Thursday, February 8th, 2024 at 8 p.m. your local time: Druddigon, Turtonator, and Drampa
- Friday, February 9th, 2024 at 10 a.m. to February 10th, 2024 at 5 p.m. your local time: All Dragon-type Pokémon
Paid Ticket – Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed Timed Research
During the Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed event, Trainers can purchase a ticket to access an event-themed Timed Research. For US$1.99 OR US$2.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll get the Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed Timed Research which rewards Trainers with the following (if tasks are completed within the time limit): Stardust, XP, 2 Lucky Eggs, and encounters with event-themed Pokémon.
Sales for this Timed Research will go live on Monday, February 5th, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time. According to Niantic, “[t]ickets are nonrefundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service).” Tickets can also be gifted to Trainers you’re friends with provided that you have a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with them. This can be done via the in-game shop and by selecting the “Gift” button instead of the “Buy” button. Tickets purchased for friends are nonrefundable as well.
Please keep in mind that Timed Research quests have deadlines. Trainers must complete this Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed Timed Research by Sunday, February 11th, 2024 at 8 p.m. your local time.
