Pokémon GO’s Adventure Week event is being crashed by Team GO Rocket, so Adventure Week is transformed into Adventure Week: Taken Over. Major changes will focus on Shadow Pokémon – new additions to the game, Raid lineups changing, Team GO Rocket members battling with new and different Shadow Pokémon, and more. This all leads up to a Shadow Lugia Raid Weekend. (For more details about the Season of Shared Skies, you can check out our Season of Shared Skies guide hub.)

Now, check out what’s happening during the Adventure Week: Taken Over event with our guide below:

Pokémon GO’s Season of Shared Skies – Adventure Week: Taken Over

Begins: Thursday, August 8th, 2024 at 12 a.m. your local time.

Ends: Monday, August 12th, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. your local time.

Pokémon debuts – Shadow Timburr, Shadow Tirtouga, Shadow Archen, and Shadow Cresselia

Shadow Timburr, Shadow Tirtouga, Shadow Archen, and Shadow Cresselia debut in Pokémon GO. Technically, Shadow Gurdurr, Shadow Conkeldurr, Shadow Carracosta, and Shadow Archeops debut as well, but those Shadow Pokémon will only be available via evolution.

  • Shadow Timburr, Shadow Tirtouga, and Shadow Archen: These three Shadow Pokémon will be available by battling certain Team GO Rocket Grunts OR Team GO Rocket Leaders. Defeating them in battle will reward you with a reward catch encounter. (Details as to which Team GO Rocket Grunt OR Leader will be known once the event starts).
  • Shadow Cresselia: Team GO Rocket Boss will have Shadow Cresselia on his team. Seek him out with a Super Rocket Radar, defeat him in battle, and you’ll get the chance to catch Shadow Cresselia.

Also, Shadow Lugia returns in Five-Star Shadow Raids. They will only be available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. your local time on Saturday, August 10th, and Sunday, August 11th.

Event Bonuses

  • Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons.
  • You can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration.

Also, the bonuses from the Adventure Week event will still be active:

  • 2× XP for spinning PokéStops.
  • 5× XP for spinning a PokéStop for the first time.
  • 2× XP for hatching Pokémon.
  • Increased chance to encounter the following Shiny Pokémon: Cranidos, Shieldon, Tirtouga, Archen, Tyrunt, and Amaura.
