Pokémon GO’s Adventure Week event is being crashed by Team GO Rocket, so Adventure Week is transformed into Adventure Week: Taken Over. Major changes will focus on Shadow Pokémon – new additions to the game, Raid lineups changing, Team GO Rocket members battling with new and different Shadow Pokémon, and more. Pokémon GO’s Season of Shared Skies – Adventure Week: Taken Over
Begins: Thursday, August 8th, 2024 at 12 a.m. your local time.
Ends: Monday, August 12th, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. your local time.
Pokémon debuts – Shadow Timburr, Shadow Tirtouga, Shadow Archen, and Shadow Cresselia
Shadow Timburr, Shadow Tirtouga, Shadow Archen, and Shadow Cresselia debut in Pokémon GO. Technically, Shadow Gurdurr, Shadow Conkeldurr, Shadow Carracosta, and Shadow Archeops debut as well, but those Shadow Pokémon will only be available via evolution.
- Shadow Timburr, Shadow Tirtouga, and Shadow Archen: These three Shadow Pokémon will be available by battling certain Team GO Rocket Grunts OR Team GO Rocket Leaders. Defeating them in battle will reward you with a reward catch encounter. (Details as to which Team GO Rocket Grunt OR Leader will be known once the event starts).
- Shadow Cresselia: Team GO Rocket Boss will have Shadow Cresselia on his team. Seek him out with a Super Rocket Radar, defeat him in battle, and you’ll get the chance to catch Shadow Cresselia.
Also, Shadow Lugia returns in Five-Star Shadow Raids. They will only be available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. your local time on Saturday, August 10th, and Sunday, August 11th.
Event Bonuses
- Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons.
- You can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration.
Also, the bonuses from the Adventure Week event will still be active:
- 2× XP for spinning PokéStops.
- 5× XP for spinning a PokéStop for the first time.
- 2× XP for hatching Pokémon.
- Increased chance to encounter the following Shiny Pokémon: Cranidos, Shieldon, Tirtouga, Archen, Tyrunt, and Amaura.
Event Boxes
If any special event boxes or bundles are released during the event, they’ll be listed here once the event is live.
- Team GO Rocket Box (315 PokéCoins): 1 Incubator, 1 Rocket Radar, and 1 Premium Battle Pass.
- Team GO Rocket Bundle (US$9.99, Pokémon Web Store only): 7 Rocket Radars, 7 Premium Battle Passes, 7 Ultra Balls, and 7 Silver Pinap Berries.
Team GO Rocket and Shadow Pokémon
- The following Pokémon have been turned into Shadow Pokémon for the first time and can be found when battling Team GO Rocket Grunts: Shadow Timburr, Shadow Tirtouga, Shadow Archen. Shadow Cresselia also debuts, but is only available when defeating Team GO Rocket Boss Giovanni.
- Shadow Gurdurr, Shadow Conkeldurr, Shadow Carracosta, and Shadow Archeops are also available. They can only be acquired through evolution.
- Along with these Shadow Pokémon debuts, they and their evolved versions can also be Purified (if specific conditions are met).
- Certain Shadow Pokémon rescued from Team GO Rocket members may be shiny, but no new additions have been spotted yet. Niantic did not specify any Shiny Shadow Pokémon debuts.
- Shadow Gurdurr, Shadow Conkeldurr, Shadow Carracosta, and Shadow Archeops are also available. They can only be acquired through evolution.
Some of the new Shadow Pokémon debuts will be available via battling Team GO Rocket Grunts:
- Shadow Tumburr: Team GO Rocket Grunt (Female) (Fighting-type Pokémon, “This buff physique isn’t just for show!”)
- Shadow Tirtouga: Team GO Rocket Grunt (Female) (Water-type Pokémon, “These waters are treacherous!”)
- Shadow Archen: Team GO Rocket Grunt (Female) (Flying-type Pokémon, “Battle against my Flying-type Pokémon!”) and Team GO Rocket Grunt (Male) (Rock-type Pokémon, “Let’s rock and roll!”)
Team GO Rocket Leaders will have the following Shadow Pokémon as their first Pokémon (in battle) and can be caught if you defeat the Leader in battle:
- Arlo: Shadow Anorith*
- Cliff: Shadow Lileep*
- Sierra: Shadow Carvanha*
Team GO Rocket Boss Giovanni will be battling with Shadow Cresselia.

These Field Research Tasks can be found when spinning PokéStops (and acquired if you have an open slot in your Field Research menu) when the event is active.

Special Research – Adventure Week: Taken Over
An event-exclusive Special Research Story will be available. This Special Research will focus on Team GO Rocket and will be available to claim until Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024 at 9:59 a.m. your local time. If you log in when this Special Research is active and do not automatically receive it, you’ll have to complete a previously Team GO Rocket-themed Special Research Story. Once completed, you’ll receive the Season of Shared Skies’ Special Research Story.
