Get your bug nets ready as Pokémon GO’s Bug Out! event returns for 2022. And, taking place right after Pokémon GO Fest Sapporo, there are some Ultra Unlock bonuses for all! For almost one week, Bug-type Pokémon will be found in the wild, Raids, photobomb Encounters, and reward Encounters. We’ll also see some Pokémon enter the game for the first time and some Pokémon’s Shiny versions are finally available worldwide.

Since this is the third event this season to get Ultra Unlock bonuses, Trainers can (finally) complete the elemental monkey trio by catching Pansage. Plus, it’s time to do a bit of Unown hunting by seeking out Unown T in Raids. See what else is lurking during this event with our guide below:

Pokémon GO’s Season of GO – Bug Out!

Begins: Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 at 10 a.m. your local time.

Ends: Tuesday, August 16th, 2022 at 8 p.m. your local time.

Pokémon debuts – Grubbin, Charjabug, Vikavolt, Mega Scizor, and more!

Channel your inner Bug Catcher when seeking out the latest Bug-type Pokémon entering the world of Pokémon GO! Hailing from the Alola region, Grubbin and its evolution line are here. Grubbin will be appearing in the wild and in specific Field Research Task Encounters, and you’ll need to gather candies to evolve ’em into their 1st and 2nd evolution forms. As for Mega Scizor*, they’ll be taking over Mega Raids, where you can battle ’em for Scizor Mega Energy and a Scizor* Encounter. Make sure to collect at least 200 Scizor Mega Energy so you can Mega Evolve your own Scizor once the event has ended.

Lastly, for all the shiny hunters out there, Shiny Venipede* is also debuting during this event. May RNG be in your favor with tracking one down (and successfully catching it)! Shiny Combee* will also be available worldwide, after debuting first at Pokémon GO Fest Seattle last month. Remember though, only female Combee can evolve into Vespiquen! Regardless, Shiny Male Combees are pretty darn cute. Don’t transfer those little guys away!

Here are the evolution requirements for Grubbin and its evolution line:

  • Charjabug: Use 25 Grubbin Candies to evolve a Grubbin into Charjabug.
  • Vikavolt: Must be within range of a PokéStop with an active Magnetic Lure Module, have a Charjabug, and 100 Grubbin Candies to initiate evolution.

Note: Pokémon marked with an * means that “If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny one!”

Raid Battle Bonuses for Groups

The in-person Raid Battle bonuses that were introduced during the Season of GO’s Community Days (referred to as Bonus Raid Battles after Community Day event) will be available during the Bug Out! event.

  • Requirement(s): Three (3) or more Trainers must battle together at a Gym via in-person Raid Battle. It doesn’t matter what kind of Raid it is (One-Star, Three-Star, Five-Star, etc.). Niantic isn’t clear if the Raid Battle must be won or not, but it’s more than likely the bonus will occur after a successful Raid Battle.
  • Result: After the Raid battle and within a 300-meter (about 984.252 ft) radius around the Gym (where the Raid took place at), a specific Bug-type Pokémon will appear in “greater numbers” for 15 minutes.

Bug-type Pokémon that will appear

  • Wednesday, August 10th: Wurmple*
  • Thursday, August 11th: Caterpie*
  • Friday, August 12th: Spinarak*
  • Saturday, August 13th: Kricketot*
  • Sunday, August 14th: Venipede*
  • Monday, August 15th: Weedle*
  • Tuesday, August 16th: Ledyba*

Additional Notes:

  • Pokémon marked with an * means that “If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny one!”
  • The initial announcement had a different schedule, where the dates for Kricketot and Venipede were switched. The above is the updated schedule.
