Niantic has revamped Pokémon GO’s Mega Evolution mechanic and after a brief rollout trial in Australia and New Zealand, the updated feature is now available worldwide! To celebrate the event and to get Trainers familiar with the new system, a short, three-day weekend event about Mega Evolution has been announced. In addition to the new features, there will also be a Mega Pokémon joining the mobile game for the first time – Mega Kangaskhan!

Pokémon GO’s Season of Alola – A Mega Moment event
Begins: Friday, April 29th, 2022 at 10 a.m. your local time.
Ends: Sunday, May 1st, 2022 at 8 p.m. your local time.
Pokémon Debuts – Mega Kangaskhan
Mega Kangaskhan is here! You’ll find this regional variant all over the world thanks to Mega Raids. Join up with friends, defeat Mega Kangaskhan, and you can get the chance to catch a Kangaskhan as well as be able to Mega Evolve it.
Event Bonuses
- Mega-Evolved Pokémon will receive a Combat Power boost.
Wild Encounters
- The following Pokémon will be appearing more frequently in the wild: Bulbasaur*, Charmander*, Squirtle*, Slowpoke*, Gastly*, Mareep*, Buneary*, and Snover*.

Special Research – A Mega Moment
As of Thursday, April 28th, 2022 at 1 p.m. PT, Trainers who logged into Pokémon GO received a Special Research story centered around the updated Mega Evolution mechanic. This free Special Research is available to Trainers who are Level 5 and up and does contain branching paths focused on Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise.

Field Research Tasks
New event-exclusive Field Research Tasks will be available and the rewards include Mega Energy (save for Kangaskhan, Latios, and Latias Mega Energy as that will be limited to Mega Raids). These Field Research Tasks can be found when spinning PokéStops (and acquired if you have an open slot in your Field Research menu) when the event is active.
- Task: Power up a Pokémon 5 times.
- Reward: 25 Mega Energy (Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Beedrill, Pidgeot, Slowbro, Gengar, Gyarados, Aerodactyl, Ampharos, Steelix, Houndoom, Manectric, Altaria, Absol, Lopunny, OR Abomasnow).
- Task: Power up a Pokémon 10 times.
- Reward: 70 Mega Energy (Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Beedrill, Pidgeot, Slowbro, Gengar, Gyarados, Aerodactyl, Ampharos, Steelix, Houndoom, Manectric, Altaria, Absol, Lopunny, OR Abomasnow).
Raid Day – Mega Kangaskhan Raid Day
Begins: Sunday, May 1st, 2022 at 11 a.m. your local time.
Ends: Sunday, May 1st, 2022 at 2 p.m. your local time.
- Mega Kangaskhan will be appearing more frequently in Mega Raids during this time!
- You can receive up to five free Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs during the event and up to two hours afterward.
- You’ll have an increased chance of encountering Shiny Kangaskhan.
