THQ Nordic has confirmed that existing owners of Epic Mickey: Rebrushed on Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the upcoming Switch 2 version for free.
The company recently published a lengthy FAQ on its Discord server regarding the Switch 2 port, which will launch on October 6th.
Owners of both digital and physical copies of the Switch 1 version are eligible for the free upgrade. Users simply need to have the Switch 1 game installed on their Switch 2 system, and they can then download the enhanced version through an update.
Players of the Switch 1 version can also access their existing save data after updating the game with the patch. THQ Nordic notes, however, that a direct purchase of the Nintendo Switch 2 port is not compatible with Switch 1 save files, as the console treats them as entirely separate products.
THQ Nordic has provided more details on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version of Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, including confirmation of a free upgrade for owners of the Switch version.

The Switch 1 version’s Costume Pack DLC is included within the new release, so those who buy the Switch 2 version will not need to purchase this content separately. Those who own the DLC can access it after applying the update patch. Those who do not own the DLC but own the base game on Switch 1, however, will remain locked out of the extra costumes in the upgrade until the DLC is purchased.
Epic Mickey: Rebrushed on Switch 2 “generally runs at a higher resolution rate and frame rate” compared to its Switch 1 counterpart, “especially when docked,” the FAQ confirms.
For those who plan to purchase the new version rather than upgrading an existing copy, it will be available digitally and as a Game Key Card physical release.
Epic Mickey originally launched as a Nintendo Wii exclusive in 2010, directed by game industry legend Warren Spector.
Nintendo Wire reviewed the original Switch release of Epic Mickey: Rebrushed in 2024, praising its improved visuals, camera, and controls, but noting that the repetitive gameplay loop and frequent backtracking from the original release remains intact.
