The Greedy Gluttons event was running smoothly in Pokémon GO, until Team GO Rocket decided that now would be the perfect time to wreak havoc again. During the last half of the Greedy Gluttons event, Team GO Rocket is revamping it with a Team GO Rocket takeover. Trainers can battle against Grunts, Leaders, and Giovanni, and encounter a variety of Shadow Pokémon (including Shadow Mewtwo).

Luckily, with all this mess, Trainers can enjoy some Team GO Rocket-centric bonuses, encounter new Shadow Pokémon, get some 12 km Eggs with a new Egg pool (that includes Shiny Pawniard), and more!

Prepare for all this trouble with our Team GO Rocket takeover event guide here:

Pokémon GO’s Season of Light – Team GO Rocket takeover

Begins: Monday, November 14th, 2022 at 12 a.m. your local time.

Ends: Thursday, November 17th, 2022 at 8 p.m. your local time.

Pokémon debuts – Shadow Pokémon and Shiny Pawniard

With Team GO Rocket’s sudden appearance, there’s been a bit of a shuffle with the group’s Shadow Pokémon. Grunts, Leaders, and even Giovanni have changed up their teams a bit and newly added Shadow Pokémon will be encounterable (provided you win your battle). So far Niantic has announced that Shadow Alolan Diglett, Shadow Onix, Shadow Natu, Shadow Wailmer, and Shadow Golett will be available via Team GO Rocket Grunts. More Shadow Pokémon may be added, we just have to wait for the event to start.

Plus, for Trainers that snag a 12 km Egg from Team GO Rocket Leaders, the egg pool has been changed up. This includes the first time of possibly hatching a Shiny Pawniard. Good luck and get your steps in to hatch as many as you can!

Also, Shadow Mewtwo is back, but you’ll have to obtain a Super Rocket Radar and successfully beat Giovanni in a 3-on-3 Pokémon battle to get the catch encounter.

Event Bonuses

  • Team GO Rocket will be appearing more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons.
  • You can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration.

Since the Team GO Rocket takeover event takes place during the Greedy Gluttons event, the following bonus is also active (provided you haven’t hit the 3 Egg limit already):

  • 1/2 Hatch Distance for the first three Eggs hatched during the event using the Pokémon GO Egg hatching widget. The widget is available on iOS and Android devices. Read up on how to activate this feature via Niantic’s Support site.

Event Boxes

Three Team GO Rocket-focused boxes will be released during the event. They are:

  • Training Box (125 PokéCoins, purchase limit 3): 3 Mysterious Components and 1 Egg Incubator.
  • GO Rocket Box (900 PokéCoins, purchase limit 3): 3 Max Potions, 3 Rocket Radars, 3 Super Incubators, and 3 Max Revives.
  • Legend Box (3,600 PokéCoins, purchase limit 1): 2 Elite Fast TMs, 2 Elite Charged TMs, 10 Rocket Radars, and 6 Super Incubators.

Special Research – Ultra Beast Protection Efforts

With the Team GO Rocket back in the spotlight, Giovanni has shuffled his team around now to feature Shadow Mewtwo. To help chase him down faster and save Shadow Mewtwo, a new Special Research story will be available at the beginning of the event and can be claimed until Thursday, December 1st, 2022 at 10 a.m. your local time (when the Season of Light ends). Keep in mind if you have a previous Team GO Rocket-focused Special Research (i.e.: Field Notes: Team GO Rocket, Silent Schemes, A Seven-Colored Shadow, etc.) active and not completed, they must finish it first before getting the latest Special Research.

A complete list of this Special Research’s tasks and associated rewards will be added here once the event is live.

Note: Step 1 may be titled “Field Notes: Team GO Rocket (1/6)” which was the previous Season’s Team GO Rocket Special Research. This may be fixed by Niantic, but it will revert to its proper title when Trainers have reached Step 2.
