The Season of Light is coming to a close… which means Trainers can now finally complete the Season’s Special Research story! With the conclusion to A Cosmic Companion here, Trainers will also be able to evolve their Cosmoem into Solgaleo, the Sunne Pokémon, or Lunala, the Moone Pokémon.
With these two Pokémon present, the skies in Pokémon GO will “light up” as a nebula. Perhaps that’s all it takes then to summon all the Ultra Beasts available in Pokémon GO, as they’ll be invading the world in their very own Ultra Beast Arrival: Global event happening on Sunday, November 27th, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. your local time.

Pokémon GO’s Season of Light – Astral Eclipse
Begins: Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022 at 10 a.m. your local time.
Ends: Monday, November 28th, 2022 at 8 p.m. your local time.
Pokémon debuts – Solgaleo and Lunala
They’re here! Trainers will be able to evolve their Cosmoem (obtained from this Season’s Special Research via evolving Cosmog) into Solgaleo and/or Lunala. Perhaps both if the A Cosmic Companion Special Research just happens to give us another catch encounter with Cosmog? We’ll just have to wait and see!
There are evolution requirements for Solgaleo and Lunala. You’ll need to collect a bunch of Cosmog Candy and plan when you’ll evolve your Cosmoem. The requirements for each Pokémon are the following:
- Solgaleo: Evolve Cosmoem during the day and fulfill the 100 Cosmog Candy requirement.
- Lunala: Evolve Cosmeom during the night and fulfill the 100 Cosmog Candy requirement.
Event Bonuses
- A Nebula skies overlay will be active in-game during this event.
- There will be some bonuses during the Ultra Beast Arrival: Global event, which overlaps the Astral Eclipse event. You can find more info via our Ultra Beast Arrival: Global event guide.

If any special boxes are released during the event, they’ll be listed here once the event is live.
Wild Encounters
- The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild: Alolan Rattata*, Alolan Sandshrew*, Clefairy*, Alolan Vulpix*, Staryu*, Hoothoot*, Sunkern*, Lunatone*, Solrock*, Munna*, Cottonee*, Petilil, and Yungoos*.

Raids
The following Pokémon will be appearing in Raids:
- One-Star Raids: Drifloon*, Frillish (male and female), Inkay*, and Rockruff*.
- Three-Star Raids: Tentacruel, Druddigon*, and Hisuian Braviary*.
- Five-Star Raids: Nihilego (See Additional Notes) and select Ultra Beasts during the Ultra Beast Arrival: Global event on Sunday, November 27th, 2022.
- Mega Raids: Mega Houndoom* (See Additional Notes).

Season of Light’s Special Research – A Cosmic Companion
The last wave of chapters for the Season of Light’s Special Research story will be released. According to the tease on the news post for this event, Niantic asks “What new mysteries will you encounter—and solve—with Cosmoem, Rhi, and Professor Willow?”

Field Research Tasks
There will be event-exclusive Field Research Tasks available and the rewards include the following Pokémon encounters: Staryu*. These Field Research Tasks can be found when spinning PokéStops (and acquired if you have an open slot in your Field Research menu) when the event is active. A complete list of tasks and associated rewards will be added here once the event is live.
- Task: Catch 5 Psychic-type Pokémon
- Reward: Staryu* Encounter
- Task: Catch 5 Staryu
- Reward: 1,000 Stardust

Collection Challenge – Astral Eclipse
A special, event-exclusive Collection Challenge will be available. According to Niantic, this Collection Challenge will reward Trainers with Stardust and an addition to the Elite Collector medal. A complete list of what Pokémon must be caught/traded/evolved and the associated rewards will be added here once the event is live.
Astral Eclipse: Sun Challenge
- Catch the following Pokémon: Solrock, Yungoos, Sunkern, Cottonee, Petilil, and Alolan Vulpix.
- Reward: 3,000 Stardust
Astral Eclipse: Moon Challenge
- Catch the following Pokémon: Lunatone, Alolan Rattata, Hoothoot, Clefairy, Munna, and Alolan Sandshrew.
- Reward: 3,000 Stardust
Trainer Recruitment Campaign
Starting on Monday, November 21st, 2022, and ending on Saturday, November 26th, 2022 (times not given), additional rewards will be given to all Trainers, provided that a specific number of new players are referred/recruited to the game. These rewards will be distributed/active during the Ultra Beast Arrival: Global event.
- 50,000 Trainers: 1 Lure Module via a bundle in the in-game shop.
- 100,000 Trainers: Beast Balls will be used during Ultra Beast encounters.
Avatar Items
New avatar items themed after Solgaleo and Lunala will be released during this event. They will be available for purchase (with PokéCoins) via the in-game shop. These avatar items will still be available for purchase after the conclusion of this event.
The new avatar items are the following: Solgaleo Mask, Solgaleo Shoes, Lunala Wings, Lunala Pants, and Galaxy Socks.
Ultra Beast Arrival: Global event
Begins: Sunday, November 27th, 2022 at 11 a.m. your local time.
Ends: Sunday, November 27th, 2022 at 5 p.m. your local time.
