The first event of Pokémon GO’s Season of Hidden Gems is a short one. For three hours, Trainers can partake in a Research Day event that features a variety of Pokémon that could be considered “hidden gems” themselves. While not referred to as a Limited Field Research Day event, that’s what Searching for Gold Research Day is essentially, but with the added feature of a paid ticket for Timed Research tacked on. Pokémon GO’s Season of Hidden Gems – Searching for Gold Research Day
Begins: Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 at 2 p.m. your local time.
Ends: Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 at 5 p.m. your local time.
Pokémon featured – Caterpie, Magikarp, Nosepass, Sableye, and Barboach
Caterpie*, Magikarp*, Nosepass*, Sableye*, and Barboach* will be available as Pokémon encounters from event-exclusive Field Research tasks. They are also available as Pokémon encounters from a paid Timed Research.
Event Bonuses
- PokéStops may turn gold without a Golden Lure Module.
- Roaming Form Gimmighoul won’t appear at Golden PokéStops if a Golden Lure Module wasn’t used, but treasure-hunting Trainers may still find Gimmighoul Coins when they spin the PokéStop!
Event Boxes
If any special event boxes or bundles are released during the event, they’ll be listed here once the event is live.
Wild Encounters
- The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild: Weedle*, Bellsprout*, Poochyena*, Buizel*, Tympole*, Shelmet*, and Stufful*.
- If you’re lucky, you might encounter the following Pokémon: Lickitung* and Azumarill.

Raids
Only Standard Raids will be active during the event, but these will feature Pokémon from the current rotation (which debuted on Thursday, June 1st, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time). These Pokémon will still be available in Raids until the start of the Water Festival: Beach Week event (which kicks off on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time).
Standard Raids
The following Pokémon will be appearing in Raids:
- One-Star Raids: Pineco*, Duskull*, Purrloin*, Munna*, and Espurr*.
- Three-Star Raids: Haunter, Hypno, Seadra, Espeon, and Shuckle*.
- Five-Star Raids: Uxie*, Mesprit*, or Azelf* (Pokémon is based on your region. Please see Additional Notes).
- Mega Raids: Mega Swampert* (See Additional Notes).
Shadow Raids
Shadow Raids don’t start for Season of Hidden Gems until Monday, June 5th, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time. Therefore, none will be active during this event.

- Pokémon marked with an * means that “If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny one!”
- Standard Raids:
- Uxie* is only available in 5-Star Raids that take place in Asia-Pacific.
- Mesprit* is only available in 5-Star Raids that take place in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India.
- Azelf* is only available in 5-Star Raids that take place in the Americas and Greenland.
- Uxie*, Mesprit*, and Azelf* will be available after the event (in Raids), until Thursday, June 15th, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time.
- Mega Swampert* will be available after the event (in Raids), until Thursday, June 15th, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time.
Field Research Tasks
There will be event-exclusive Field Research Tasks available and the rewards include the following Pokémon encounters: Caterpie*, Magikarp*, Nosepass*, Sableye*, and Barboach*. These Field Research Tasks can be found when spinning PokéStops (and acquired if you have an open slot in your Field Research menu) when the event is active. All Field Research tasks related to this event will be labeled “EVENT” and have a gold border around their box.
A complete list of tasks and rewards will be shared here once the event is live. All task rewards will be a catch reward encounter with ONE of the following Pokémon at random: Caterpie*, Magikarp*, Nosepass*, Sableye*, or Barboach*.

- Task: Make 3 Great Throws
- Task: Make 5 Curveball Throws
- Task: Make 3 Nice Curveball Throws

- Task: Use a Super Effective Charged Attack
- Task: Earn a Candy exploring with your Buddy
- Task: Earn 3 hearts with your Buddy
- Task: Open 5 Gifts
- Task: Send 3 Gifts and add a Sticker to each

Paid Ticket – Searching for Gold Research Day: Timed Research
During the Searching for Gold Research Day event, Trainers can purchase a ticket to access an event-themed Timed Research. For $0.99 USD OR $1.00 USD (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll get the Searching for Gold Research Day Timed Research which rewards Trainers with Pokémon encounters (if tasks are completed within the time limit). For the first step, Caterpie*, Magikarp*, Nosepass*, Sableye*, and Barboach* are reward catch encounters. After that, the Timed Research branches off into one of five routes (Caterpie, Magikarp, Nosepass, Sableye, or Barboach). Going forward, Pokémon reward catch encounters will be only of the Pokémon you chose during the branching path segment.

Sales for this Timed Research will go live on Wednesday, May 31st, 2023 at 5 p.m. your local time (and sales will end on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 at 5 p.m. your local time). According to Niantic, “[t]ickets are nonrefundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service).” Tickets can also be gifted to Trainers you’re friends with provided that you have a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with them. This can be done via the in-game shop and by selecting the “Gift” button instead of the “Buy” button. Tickets purchased for friends are nonrefundable as well.
Please keep in mind that Timed Research quests have deadlines. Trainers must complete this Searching for Gold Research Day Timed Research by Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 at 5 p.m. your local time.
