It’s the start of April, which means it’s April Fools’ Day! Niantic has released little “pranks” or events in the past for Pokémon GO, and this year is no different. Ditto, the Transform Pokémon, is taking over this year’s event. With its habit to mimic other Pokémon, Trainers will be looking out for Pokémon that Ditto currently disguises itself as in Pokémon GO.

Pokémon GO’s Season of Alola – April Fools’ 2-Oh?-22
Begins: Friday, April 1st, 2022 at 12 a.m. your local time.
Ends: Friday, April 1st, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. your local time.
Wild Encounters – Ditto and Friends
Ditto
Ditto* appears to be changing into different Pokémon in the wild.
Note: Pokémon marked with an * means that “If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny one!”
Transformations
While, technically, Ditto can transform into anything, there’s a limited transformation pool for them in Pokémon GO. For the event, these Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild on April 1st, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. your local time:
- Pokémon that can be Ditto: Ekans*, Gastly*, Natu*, Surskit, Finneon, Dwebble*, and Swirlix.
Note: Typically, encountering a Shiny Pokémon that can transform into Ditto would result in no possibility of Ditto. For April 1st, this might not be the case as Niantic notes in their blog post for the event that Pokémon marked with an * means that “If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny Pokémon–including Shiny Ditto!” … Happy April Fools’?
Special Research

A three-step, event-exclusive Special Research will be available for Trainers to complete:

Note: The “Catch 3 of the Transform Pokémon” in Step 2/3 means Trainers must catch the following Pokémon (Ekans*, Gastly*, Natu*, Surskit, Finneon, Dwebble*, and/or Swirlix) and have them actually be a Ditto! You’ll know when you get the “Oh?” screen transition after catching the Pokémon.
Field Research Tasks
For this one-day event, there’s an exclusive Field Research Task. It’s time to hunt down the Pokémon that Ditto is known to masquerade as in Pokémon GO:
- Task: Catch 3 of the Transform Pokémon (Ditto that is disguised as Ekans*, Gastly*, Natu*, Surskit, Finneon, Dwebble*, and/or Swirlix)
- Reward: Ditto Encounter
Stickers
Special, Ditto-themed event stickers will be available by spinning PokéStops, opening Gifts, and purchasing them from the in-game shop.
