Niantic is ending the Season of Heritage with a big event – Pokémon GO Tour: Johto!
Similar to last year’s Kanto Tour, this Johto version is happening on Saturday, February 26th, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. your local time. While it’s not quite Pokémon Day (February 27th), this event is certainly packed with plenty of fun for Trainers. This event marks the complete release of all Shiny versions of Pokémon hailing from the Johto region (in Pokémon GO), and is seeing the release of a new Masterwork Research that features Apex Shadow Lugia and Ho-Oh.
Keep reading to find out what’s included in the ticketed version of this event and what’s available for non-ticket holders.
Ticketed Version
Pokémon GO Tour: Johto is divided into two tiers – the paid, ticketed event and a free-version. A majority of the activities, research, rewards, etc. can only be experienced with the purchase of a ticket ($11.99 USD or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency, plus any applicable taxes and fees).
If Trainers purchase a ticket, they’ll be asked to pick between two versions – Gold Version or Silver Version. The difference between the two are Pokémon appearances, Avatar items, and some Research Tasks, but overall both versions are equally matched.
Non-ticketed Version
The following features will be available to all Trainers during the event, regardless of whether they purchase a ticket. For a direct comparison chart, please visit the official Pokémon GO Tour: Johto page.
- Some Pokémon originally discovered in Johto will be appearing in the wild, appearing in Raids, and hatching from 7 km Eggs. Raids will include Entei, Suicune, Raikou, Lugia, and Ho-Oh! Pokémon Encounters
Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region
All Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region will be appearing in the wild, will be appearing in Raids, will be appearing in encounters after research tasks, will be attracted to Incense, will hatch from Eggs, will be available via trading with friends, or will be obtainable via Evolution during this time.
All Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region will be appearing as Shiny Pokémon. Shiny Pokémon appearing for the first time in Pokémon GO include Girafarig, Corsola, Remoraid, Mantine (only in Gold Version), Phanpy (only in Silver Version), and Tyrogue. This includes the featured Unown (G, J, O, R, T, and U), which will be attracted to Incense. In addition, you’ll be more likely to encounter certain Shiny Pokémon in the wild depending on the event version you selected.
Kanto Pokémon
While initially debuting in the Kanto region, a number of Pokémon from the Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow era received new evolutions in the Johto region (Gold, Silver, and Crystal games). Regardless if you have a ticket or not, you’ll find the following Kanto Pokémon appearing in the wild during the event: Poliwhirl, Golbat, Gloom, Slowpoke, Onix, Chansey, Seadra, Scyther, Porygon, and Eevee.
Note: If a Pokémon is marked with an * next to its name, it means if you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny one!

If you selected the Gold Version for your Pokémon GO Tour: Johto ticket, you’ll encounter the following Pokémon:
- Attracted to Incense
- The following Pokémon will be attracted to Incense: Spinarak*, Gligar*, Teddiursa*, and Mantine*.

Note: See “Rotating Habitats” for Pokémon that will appear in the wild during specific hours.
Additional Note: Similar to Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal (as well as HeartGold and SoulSilver), Raikou, Entei, and Suicune will flee if you do not catch them after your first attempt. Their appearance is tied to the Raikou, Entei, and Suicune Photo Safari (Event-exclusive Timed Research), which will guarantee a stable Encounter. Regardless, you can successfully catch them via these wild encounters, but the chances are low.
Notable Pokémon Debuts
While all Pokémon originating from the Johto region have been available in Pokémon GO for some time, this event will make regional exclusive Pokémon (Corsola and Heracross) appear in Raids worldwide as well as the debut of several Pokémon’s Shiny versions.
