Initially announced on January 31st, 2020, Niantic announced it would begin testing new types of events during February 2020 – Pokémon Spotlight Hour and Mystery Bonus Hour. After testing and user feedback, Niantic combined both events into one and announced what Pokémon and bonuses would be featured in advance.

Now, in 2022, the weekly event continues and happens every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. (your local time), provided there aren’t any cancellations. In the case of any issues, Niantic will hold a makeup event (i.e.: Snover Spotlight Hour in December 2020). Niantic can also host additional Spotlight Hour events (i.e.: Friday – Monday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. your local time as part of November 2021’s Mischief Unbound event).

What Pokémon is in today’s Spotlight Hour?

The Pokémon for Tuesday, October 25th, 2022’s Spotlight Hour is Shuppet.

EDIT (Tuesday, October 25th, 2022): Initially, Nianticteased that Trainers should have their Buddy Pokémon walking with them to “witness something special at the beginning and end of this Spotlight Hour.” The surprise was the introduction of Zorua where wild Zorua would mimic various Pokémon (similar to Ditto encounters in Pokémon GO). Due to issues, Niantic pulled the surprise. They made the announcement via their Niantic Support Twitter account. Below is the complete message shared:

Trainers, we are aware of a bug where Zorua, a Pokémon with a planned surprise encounter during October 25th’s Shuppet Spotlight Hour, retains stats such as the height, CP, and attacks of the Pokémon it originally took on the form of.

The Zorua surprise that occurred in time zones including and prior to GMT+13 will not occur in time zones after while we fix this. Shuppet Spotlight Hour will still occur.

Zorua already caught by Trainers will not be able to be Traded, sent to Pokémon HOME, or allowed in GO Battle League until this issue is resolved. Please stay tuned for further details. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

Can Shuppet be shiny?

Yes, Shuppet can be shiny.

Are there any bonuses for today’s Spotlight Hour?

Yes, the bonus for today’s Pokémon GO Spotlight Hour is earning twice the XP for evolving Pokémon and is only active during the event (6 p.m. – 7 p.m. your local time).

Who will be next week’s Pokémon in Pokémon GO Spotlight Hour?

Next week’s Pokémon for Spotlight Hour is Duskull wearing cempasúchil crowns (part of this year’s Día de Muertos 2022 event).
