The first event Pokémon (or Costumed Pokémon) for Pokémon GO’s Season of Shared Skies is here. Slakoth, Vigoroth, and Slaking are donning visors for the summer and beachy vibes. Yet, since these Pokémon are fond of nodding off and chilling, they aren’t the only debut. Shiny Komala is finally here in Pokémon GO! Also, Trainers will have another chance to get Snorlax with a nightcap (but they’ll need a Pokémon GO Plus + device). Pokémon GO’s Season of Shared Skies – Slumbering Sands
Begins: Friday, June 7th, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time.
Ends: Wednesday, June 12th, 2024 at 8 p.m. your local time.
Pokémon debuts – Costumed Slakoth, Costumed Vigoroth, Costumed Slaking, and Shiny Komala
There are four debuts for this event and one notable return:
- Slakoth wearing a visor (Costumed Slakoth): This Costumed Slakoth will be available to encounter in the wild and as a reward catch encounter in “free” and paid Timed Research and Field Research.
- Vigoroth wearing a visor (Costumed Vigoroth): Trainers can add a Costumed Vigoroth to their team by evolving a Costumed Slakoth via 25 Slakoth Candies.
- Slaking wearing a visor (Costumed Slaking): Trainers can add a Costumed Slaking to their team by evolving a Costumed Vigoroth via 100 Slakoth Candies
- Shiny Komala: Starting with this event, Trainers might encounter a Shiny Komala if they’re lucky! During the event, Komala will be available in the wild, as a Field Research reward catch encounter, a Collection Challenge reward catch encounter, and in “free” and paid Timed Research quests.
- Snorlax wearing a nightcap (Costumed Snorlax): Exclusive to the Pokémon GO Plus + device, this sleepy Snorlax will be available again to all Trainers who have connected the device to their Pokémon GO account in a Timed Research quest.
Note: Going forward, these Pokémon will be referred to as “Costumed” rather than the exact outfit they are wearing.
Event Bonuses
- 2× XP for catching Pokémon.
- Take a few snapshots and you might have a surprise encounter with an event-themed Pokémon! (5 daily photobomb encounters featuring Mareep and/or Slowpoke and/or Oranguru.)
- Shiny rates increased for Costumed Slakoth and Komala in Field Research reward catch encounters (compared to rates for Wild Encounters).
During this event, the June 2024 Community Day event featuring Goomy will occur. So, the following bonuses will be available on Sunday, June 9th, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. your local time (save for two bonuses):
- 3× Stardust for catching Pokémon
- 2× Candy for catching Pokémon
- 2× chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive XL Candy from catching Pokemon
- Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours (Golden Lure Module excluded)
- Incense activated during the event will last for three hours (Daily Adventure Incense excluded)
- Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise! (Goomy photobomb spawn. Can be repeated up to 5 times.)
- Trades made will require 50% less Stardust (active from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. your local time)
- One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of three for the day (active from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. your local time)

A Pokémon Sleep-themed Timed Research quest will be active during the event for Trainers who have connected a Pokémon GO Plus + device to their Pokémon GO account. Rewards for this Timed Research include the following Pokémon encounters: Costumed Snorlax*, Costumed Slakoth*, and Komala*. This Timed Research will be available to complete and claim all rewards until Friday, June 14th, 2024 at 8 p.m. your local time (after the end of this event).

Field Research Tasks
There will be event-exclusive Field Research Tasks available and the rewards include the following Pokémon encounters: Psyduck*, Drowzee*, Mareep*, Costumed Slakoth*, Oranguru*, Sandygast, and Komala*. These Field Research Tasks can be found when spinning PokéStops (and acquired if you have an open slot in your Field Research menu) when the event is active.

PokéStop Showcase
During the event, PokéStop Showcases will be active. The theme of these contests is to submit the biggest Pokémon being requested. This section will be updated once the event starts.

Collection Challenge – Slumbering Sands Collection Challenge
A special, event-exclusive Collection Challenge will be available. According to Niantic, this Collection Challenge will reward Trainers with Stardust, XP, Komala* Encounter, and an addition to the Elite Collector medal. A complete list of what Pokémon must be caught/traded/evolved and the associated rewards will be added here once the event is live.
- Catch: Mareep, Oranguru, Sandygast, and Drowzee.
- Evolve: Mareep into Flaaffy, Flaaffy into Ampharos, Sandygast into Palossand, and Drowzee into Hypno.
- Completion Rewards: Komala* Encounter, 5,000 XP, and 2,500 Stardust

Paid Timed Research – Slumbering Sands Paid Timed Research
During the Slumbering Sands event, Trainers can purchase a ticket to access an event-themed Timed Research. For US$1.99 OR US$2.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll get the Slumbering Sands Timed Research which rewards Trainers with the following items (if tasks are completed within the time limit): Komala Backpack (Avatar Item), Komala* Encounter(s), Costumed Slakoth* Encounter(s), Stardust, XP, Silver Pinap Berries, and more.
According to Niantic, “[t]ickets are nonrefundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service).” Tickets can also be gifted to Trainers you’re friends with provided that you have a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with them. This can be done via the in-game shop and by selecting the “Gift” button instead of the “Buy” button. Tickets purchased for friends are nonrefundable as well.
Please keep in mind that Timed Research quests have deadlines. Trainers must complete this Slumbering Sands Timed Research and claim all rewards before Wednesday, June 12th, 2024 at 8 p.m. your local time.
