The Festival of Lights event returns this year during the aptly named Season of Light! Along with the appearance of Electric-type Pokémon and a few others that have a fairly nice glow when they’re in dark environments, this event is the debut for Morelull and Shiinotic (the Illumination Pokémon). You’ll be able to catch and evolve them, as well as enjoy various event bonuses, Field Research tasks, Timed Research, and more.

Pokémon GO’s Season of Light – Festival of Lights 2022

Begins: Friday, October 14th, 2022 at 10 a.m. your local time.

Ends: Monday, October 17th, 2022 at 8 p.m. your local time.

 

Pokémon debuts – Morelull and Shiinotic

 

 

For this year’s Festival of Lights event, Morelull and Shiinotic will light the way! These glowing mushroom-like Pokémon will be debuting in-game for the first time. You’ll be able to find Morelull in the wild, via Incense encounters, Raids, and Field Research task encounters. To get Shiinotic, you’ll have to have a Morelull (to evolve) and 50 Morelull Candies. With those requirements met, you can evolve any Morelull you’ve caught (and didn’t release) into Shiintoic!

 

Event Bonuses

  • 2× Candy for catching Pokémon
  • 2× XP for catching Pokémon
  • Incense activated during the event will last for two (2) hours
  • You’ll have an increased chance of encountering Shiny Chinchou
  • Some Pokémon (i.e.: Litwick, Chinchou, etc.) will glow on-screen during “nighttime” hours

 

Event Boxes

  • Catch Box (425 PokéCoins): 5 Poké Balls, 25 Great Balls, and 50 Ultra Balls.
  • Lure Module Box (425 PokéCoins): 2 Rainy Lure Modules, 2 Magnetic Lure Modules, 2 Mossy Lure Modules, and 2 Glacial Lure Modules.
  • Training Box (425 PokéCoins): 2 Incense, 2 Star Pieces, 2 Lure Modules, and 2 Lucky Eggs.
  • Event Box (550 PokéCoins): 2 Incense, 2 Egg Incubators, 2 Premium Battle Passes, and 2 Remote Raid Passes.

 

Wild Encounters

  • The following Pokémon will be appearing in the wild: Pikachu*, Vulpix*, Magnemite*, Chinchou*, Litwick, Litleo*, Helioptile, Dedenne, and Morelull.
    • If you’re lucky, you might encounter the following: Galarian Ponyta* and Togedemaru.

Increased Incense Encounters

  • The following Pokémon will be appearing more frequently when Trainers use Incense: Alolan Geodude*, Blitzle*, Darumaka*,  Litwick, Dedenne, and Morelull.
    • If you’re lucky, you might encounter the following: Galarian Ponyta* and Galarian Darumaka*.

Raids

The following Pokémon will be appearing in Raids:

  • One-Star Raids: Galarian Ponyta*, Darumaka*, Dedenne, and Morelull.
  • Three-Star Raids: Alolan Raichu*, Galarian Weezing*, Mawile*, and Hisuian Braviary*.
  • Five-Star Raids: Xerneas* (See Additional Notes).
  • Mega Raids: Mega Manecetric* (See Additional Notes).

Field Research Tasks

New event-exclusive Field Research Tasks will be available and the rewards include the following Pokémon encounters: Galarian Ponyta*, Electabuzz*, Magmar*, Chinchou*, Blitzle*, Dedenne, and Morelull. These Field Research Tasks can be found when spinning PokéStops (and acquired if you have an open slot in your Field Research menu) when the event is active. A complete list of tasks and associated rewards will be added here once the event is live.

 

  • Task: Catch 5 Pokémon
    • Reward: Chinchou* Encounter
  • Task: Catch 10 Pokémon
    • Reward: Blitzle* Encounter
  • Task: Catch 15 Pokémon
    • Reward: Morelull Encounter
  • Task: Hatch an Egg
    • Reward: Galarian Ponyta* Encounter
  • Task: Power up Pokémon 5 times
    • Reward: Dedenne Encounter
  • Task: Send 5 Gifts and add a Sticker to each
    • Reward: Electabuzz* OR Magmar* Encounter

 

Timed Research

A special, event-exclusive Timed Research will be available. It will be focused on catching Pokémon. The big reward will be a Sparkler Pose for your avatar. Tasks and rewards will be added here once the event is live.

  • Task: Make 15 Nice Throws
    • Reward: 20 Great Balls

  • Task: Make 5 Curveball Throws
    • Reward: 10 Pinap Berries
  • Task: Use 10 Berries to help catch Pokémon
    • Reward: Dedenne Encounter

    • Reward: 3 Golden Razz Berries

    • Reward: 3 Silver Pinap Berries
  • Task: Take snapshots of 10 different wild Pokémon

Stickers

There will be an assortment of Morelull and Shiinotic-themed stickers released during the event. You can get them by spinning PokéStops, opening Gifts, and/or purchasing them from Pokémon GO’s in-game shop during the event.
