It’s August, which means it’s time for the yearly Pokémon World Championships! This time the event will be taking place in Yokohama, Japan. Whether you’re attending the event in person or watching any of the live streams from home via Twitch, all Pokémon GO Trainers can partake in a special Worlds-themed event in Pokémon GO! Similar to last year’s event, there will be codes distributed during the event’s live stream and will feature a Costumed Pikachu.

Now, get all the details for the 2023 Pokémon World Championships Celebration event with our guide below:

Pokémon GO’s Season of Hidden Gems – 2023 Pokémon World Championships Celebration

Begins: Friday, August 11th, 2023 at 10 a.m. your local time.

Ends: Tuesday, August 15th, 2023 at 8 p.m. your local time.

Pokémon debuts – Passimian, Costumed Pikachu, and Shiny Scraggy

There are four debuts happening during the 2023 Pokémon World Championships celebration event. They are:

  • Passimian: Oranguru’s counterpart is finally here! To add Passimian to your team in Pokémon GO, you’ll only find them via two methods – Field Research tasks and in Three-Star Raids.
  • Costumed Pikachu (World Championships 2023 Pikachu): Another Worlds event, another Costumed Pikachu. This year, Pikachu is ready to take on the competition wearing a Yokohama jersey featuring Pikachu and a bowl of ramen. You can find this Pikachu in Field Research tasks, Timed Research, and in One-Star Raids during the event.
    • Note: Going forward, this Pikachu will be referred to as “Costumed” rather than the exact outfit they are wearing.
  • Shiny Scraggy: If you’re lucky, you can find a Shiny Scraggy in the wild and as a catch reward encounter in One-Star Raids during the event. If you also happen to have some 12 km Eggs (obtained from Team GO Rocket Leaders) you can try hatching one too.
  • Shiny Scrafty: With Scraggy shiny’s version now available in Pokémon GO, that means you can evolve one into a Shiny Scrafty. For that, you’ll need to get a Shiny Scraggy and evolve ’em using 50 Scraggy Candies.

Event Bonuses

  • The maximum number of sets you can play per day in the GO Battle League will go up from 5 to 10.
  • Pokémon encountered via GO Battle League rewards will have a wider variance of Attack, Defense, and HP.

If you’re at the 2023 Pokémon World Championships in Yokohama, Japan, the following bonuses will be available on-site:

  • Take a few snapshots for a surprise! (Costumed Pikachu* photobomb spawn. Possibly repeatable up to 5 times per day.)
  • A World Championships-themed Collection Challenge that will reward Trainers with 1 Elite Charged TM, 1 Elite Fast TM, and 1 Poffin.
  • Field Research tasks that can reward Trainers with Costumed Pikachu* and more reward catch encounters.
