Every few months, the seasons change into spring, summer, fall, or winter. Inspired by these changes Niantic added Seasons to Pokémon GO back in December 2020. Each Season in the mobile game is three months long and features special events, certain Pokémon appearing more often in the wild (in certain areas and hemispheres), refreshed Egg pool, and more. Instead of being named after the spring, summer, fall, or winter seasons, each Season in Pokémon GO is named after an idea/theme.

For March 2024, a new Season has begun and it’s called World of Wonders.

What is the Season of World of Wonders?

The Season of World of Wonders is Pokémon GO’s 14th in-game Season and starts on Friday, March 1st, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time. During this Season, Niantic will continue to introduce Pokémon from Paldea, the return of Ultra Wormholes (and more Ultra Beasts), and more.

Niantic is also promoting Routes, Showcases, and Party Play features that were added in the previous seasons (Season of Hidden Gems, Season of Adventures Abound, and Season of Timeless Travels).

When is the Season of World of Wonders?

The Season of World of Wonders takes place over three months – starting on Friday, March 1st, 2024 at 10 a.m. and ending on Saturday, June 1st, 2024 at 10 a.m. your local time.

What is the focus of the Season of World of Wonders?

The focus of the Season of World of Wonders is “a world of Pokémon”. Ultra Beasts, Pokémon from Paldea, and more will be featured. It is also, unfortunately, looking to be a season filled with paid tickets, so expect more event perks to be locked behind a paywall.

Are there any new features being added during the Season of World of Wonders?

On the official Season of World of Wonders site, Pokémon debuts and some permanent game changes are currently listed. There might be more features added as the season progresses.

Pokémon debuts – Paldea, Ultra Beasts, and Shiny Shadow Pokémon

Pokémon from Paldea

More Pokémon from Paldea are arriving in Pokémon GO! Charcadet, Armarouge, and Ceruledge are the first debuts of the Season of World of Wonders. Who knows what other Pokémon will debut during this season? (Please be Dachsbun…)

Pikachu, Ph.D. at your service

PokéStop Showcases now have some Pikachu-themed perks! Announced on the official Pokémon GO blog, PokéStop Showcase wins will reward Trainers with pieces from the Pikachu, Ph.D.-themed Avatar set and encountering this Costumed Pikachu via a reward catch encounter.

  • Bronze medal (10 Wins): Pikachu, Ph.D. Headband
  • Silver medal (25 Wins): Pikachu, Ph.D. Glasses
  • Gold medal (50 Wins): Pikachu, Ph.D. Pose
  • Platinum medal (100 Wins): Encounter with Pikachu, Ph.D.

Ultra Beast resurgence and debut

Ultra Beasts that were introduced in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will be making their way to Pokémon GO. Poipole, Naganadel, Stakataka, and Blacephalon have been spotted in a new Ultra Beast trailer for this season. Kartana and Celesteela return in April, along with the debut of their shiny versions. Necrozma will debut during this year’s Pokémon GO Fest events.

Shiny Shadow Pokémon debut

During this season, Five-Star Shadow Raids will feature Shadow Raikou, Shadow Entei, and Shadow Suicune. Each Legendary Beast will be featured for a month (Raikou kicks things off in March 2024) and, if you’re lucky, you might capture a shiny one (if you defeat them in the Raid). This will be the shiny debut for each Shadow version.

Rediscover Pokémon GO

Announced in mid-April, Niantic is updating the visuals of Pokémon GO (under the branding of Rediscover Pokémon GO). These updates will roll out in themed drops during the Season of World of Wonders.

  • Rediscover Yourself (update drops on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024): A new Appearance tab/system is implemented for avatars. Trainers can now change hairstyles, faces, body shape (sliders for weight, muscle, shoulders, chest, and hips), and more. A new Avatar Item (Trainer Top) is also available for free.
  • Rediscover Your World (update drops on Monday, April 22nd, 2024): Real-world locations will be better reflected in-game. Visual enhancements now properly convey what biomes Trainers are playing in.
  • Rediscover Kanto (update drops on Monday, April 22nd, 2024): An event featuring the changes made in the Rediscover Your World update.
  • Rediscover Your Reality (update drops on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024): The Pokémon GO Snapshot feature is being revamped. Please stay tuned for more details.

Pokémon GO Fest 2024

This year’s Pokémon GO Fest will take place during the Season of World of Wonders and the following Season. This is due to the scheduling of three in-person events plus the global event.

  • Thursday, May 30th, 2024 to Sunday, June 2nd, 2024: Pokémon GO Fest 2024: Sendai (Japan)
  • Friday, June 14th, 2024 to Sunday, June 16th, 2024: Pokémon GO Fest 2024: Madrid (Spain)
  • Friday, July 5th, 2024 to Sunday, July 7th, 2024: Pokémon GO Fest 2024: New York City (New York, United States)
  • Saturday, July 13th, 2024 and Sunday, July 14th, 2024: Pokémon GO Fest 2024: Global

As an incentive to buy the paid global ticket, Trainers can get two Timed Research quests for free (each giving Trainers a Sun and Moon-themed crown for their avatar). The catch is that the global ticket must be purchased before select dates and Trainers will need to play the game between specific dates.

  • Purchase by Monday, May 6th, 2024 and play between Tuesday, April 30th, 2024 at Monday, May 6th, 2024): Timed Research: A Glimpse of Daylight
  • Purchase by Thursday, June 6th, 2024 and play between Friday, May 31st, 2024 at Thursday, June 6th, 2024): Moon-themed Timed Research

Reminders – Party Play, Pokémon Showcases, and Routes

Party Play: A new multiplayer feature that debuted during the Season of Adventures Abound, Party Play allows up to four Trainers (must be level 15 and above) to play together and tackle a variety of Party Play challenges. For more information about this feature, you can check out the official Pokémon GO Party Play feature page.

PokéStop Showcases: Debuting during the Season of Hidden Gems, PokéStop Showcases are Pokémon GO’s version of Pokémon Contests. Trainers can show off a Pokémon at PokéStops that are actively hosting Showcases (not all PokéStops will be hosting these events). There, a Showcase’s theme and rules can be viewed and Trainers can submit a Pokémon that qualifies for the Showcase (i.e.: the biggest Squirtle, the biggest Fire-type Pokémon, etc.). For more information about PokéStop Showcases, you can read the official Pokémon GO blog post detailing the feature.

Routes: Rolling out across the globe, Routes is a new gameplay feature that debuted during the Season of Timeless Travels. Take walking tours from Gyms and beyond to explore your hometown, cities, and more. Plus, you might just find some Zygarde Cells in your travels. For more information on Routes, you can check out the dedicated Routes info page on the official Pokémon GO website.
