Byleth, hero of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, returns in Fire Emblem Engage as the Emblem of the Instructor, who will assist your army in its quest.

Byleth in Engage is built around supporting the other units in your army moreso than attacking directly. Sync Skill Divine Pulse is handy for your units with dodgy accuracy, turning some would-be misses into hits. Engage Skill Instruct works like Rally from previous games, providing certain stat benefits to nearby units based on your unit’s type. And Engage Attack Goddess Dance isn’t an attack at all, but a powerful four-tile Dance that will allow all units surrounding Byleth’s to act again. Byleth’s loadout will depend a lot on what kind of unit has him equipped, dictating what kind of support he gives out and how, but especially with how good his Engage Attack is, he makes an excellent choice for any army member, particularly the more mobile ones.

Byleth has many more Engage Weapons than other Emblems, but only one from a long list will be available depending on unit type (for example, a flier would get the speed-based Lúin, a backup unit would get the effective damage Blutgang, etc.). All characters eventually get the Vajra-Mushti, which have a brave effect and target the foe’s weaker defensive stat (making it very powerful in the right hands. And the Sword of the Creator has 1-2 range and will get increased damage with a higher Mag stat while still striking Def, making it a great choice for your mages or mixed attackers.

How to obtain Byleth

Byleth will become available after you clear Chapter 14: The Battle for Solm. Starting in subsequent battles, you can equip him on whatever characters you would like.

Who Is Byleth?

Byleth (VA: Yuusuke Kobayashi [JP] / Zach Aguilar [EN]) was a mercenary, working for his father Geralt, when their resolution of a certain incident got Byleth a position as a professor at the Officers Academy at Garreg Mach Monastery. There, the simmering conflicts between their students and the church resulted in war breaking out across the entirety of Fódlan, with Byleth taking up arms to fight for the house they aligned themself with. A mysterious entity known as Sothis resides in Byleth’s mind, granting them some power over the flow of time. In Engage, Byleth appears in male form, but originally could be either male or female. Byleth is generally emotionless, quiet, and blankfaced, though they do care for the students they take charge of.
