Roy, hero of Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, returns in Fire Emblem Engage as the Emblem of the Young Lion, who will assist your army in its quest.
Roy is a well-balanced Emblem that leans a bit into the defensive end. Synchro Skill Hold Out will allow his unit to endure any hit at 1 HP, provided you had a decent chunk of HP left in the first place. Engage Skill Rise Above gives a straight five levels to your unit as long as you’re Engaged, providing a potentially much-needed stat buff to tank, dodge, or OHKO. And his Engage Attack Blazing Lion is the rare AOE strike, setting a chunk of tiles before him on fire. This all makes Roy an excellent option for units who tend to go off on their own, a fantastic choice for chokeholds or other spots where a bunch of enemies will congregate on just one or two army members.
Roy’s first Engage Weapon is the Lancereaver, a sword which flips the weapon triangle (it’s effective against lances but not against axes). His Wyrmslayer is stronger than the generic one you can obtain for other army members and retains its effectiveness against dragons. And his mighty Binding Blade can strike both close and at range while granting buffs to both Def and Res.
How to obtain Roy
Roy will automatically join up at the beginning of Chapter 8: The Kingdom of Might. He’s equipped to Diamant for the map, who can make effective use of his solo tanking options to take care of one side of the map if need be. After clearing the chapter you can equip Roy to whomever you’d like.

Who Is Roy?
Roy (VA: Jun Fukuyama [JP] / Ray Chase [EN]) is the son of Eliwood, Marquess of Pherae (and protagonist of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, which is the prequel to Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade). When the Empire of Bern invades all across the continent of Elibe, Roy must take up arms in place of his ill father to defend the land. Despite his youth, inexperience, and a large shadow to step out of, Roy is vigilant in his quest to repel Bern, collect the legendary weapons, and uncover the truth behind the dragons Bern has reportedly brought back to Elibe…
