Pokémon’s fourth generation was full of evolutions, including a handful that utilized newly introduced held items to trigger them. These can happen by either leveling up or being traded while holding the necessary item, though a few have additional requirements, such as being locked to a certain time. One of these evolutions is Porygon-Z, the Gen IV evolution of Gen II’s Porygon2.

Where to find Porygon and Porygon2 in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

 

The Porygon line has the unique distinction of having two held item trade evolutions, and has traditionally been a tricky Pokémon to acquire. In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you’ll be able to find it at the Trophy Garden on Route 212 once you have the National Dex. Talk to Mr. Backlot until he mentions Porygon is there. Porygon has a 5% chance of appearing in the Trophy Garden on days its available and will be at level 16 when encountered.

Porygon evolves into Porygon2 by trading it while holding an Upgrade.

 

Where to find an Upgrade in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

 

You can find the Upgrade item in Pokémon BDSP by heading to Eterna City once you have the National Dex. Talk to Professor Oak there after visiting Ramanas Park, and he’ll give you an Upgrade. You can also purchase an Upgrade from the Battle Tower for 5 BP.

 

How to evolve Porygon2 into Porygon-Z in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

 

Porygon2 evolves into Porygon-Z by trading it while holding a Dubious Disc.

 

Where to find a Dubious Disc in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

 

You can find a Dubious Disc on Route 225, where you can Surf your way to its hiding spot. You can also purchase a Dubious Disc from the Battle Tower for 5 BP.

With a couple of trades while holding the necessary items, you’ll be able to evolve your way to Porygon-Z!
