Guide – Easy Shiny hunting via Mass Outbreaks in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Pokémon Legends: Arceus continues the long-standing tradition of including Shiny Pokémon, and this time Game Freak made it easier than ever to find and capture these color-swapped monsters. While traditional Shiny rates are typically 1/4,092, a new mechanic called Mass Outbreaks has slashed those numbers substantially. Here’s what you need to do!

 

What are Mass Outbreaks in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

 

 

Mass Outbreaks are small mobs of Pokémon that appear in specific areas at random. Mass Outbreaks are easily located on the map with a small circle that features the Mass Outbreak Pokémon in the center. Warp to the location in question and open your map to see where the Pokémon are congregating.

 

How do you unlock Mass Outbreaks in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

 

You don’t have to do anything to unlock Mass Outbreaks, as they’ll already be available to you at the start of the game.

 

Shiny hunting through Mass Outbreaks in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

 

 

For whatever reason, Shiny rates are off the charts for Pokémon in a Mass Outbreak. Roughly around 1/158. Throughout my testing, I was able to find two Shiny Pokémon using this method in less than an hour. That was done while inspecting about 20 Mass Outbreaks in total. While these numbers aren’t the official odds, I’ve found a Shiny in roughly 10% of the Outbreaks I’ve encountered so far. 

Typically, you can encounter 10-12 Pokémon in a Mass Outbreak, however, only four will show up on screen at any given time. I recommend hiding in some tall grass and catching as many as you can so more can spawn in.

 

Can you re-roll a Mass Outbreak to try again?

 

Yes. You can leave an area and come back to re-roll your Shiny odds. However, this requires following a strict set of instructions to maximize your chance of seeing a Shiny:

 

1. Turn off autosave in the main menu.
2. Find an area where a Mass Outbreak is taking place. Travel there and save your game.
3. Check for Shinies. If you have no luck, restart your game.
4. Load your last save game and exit back to Jubilife Village. You must exit the area to get a new Shiny roll.
5. Check to see if the Mass Outbreak is still occurring. If it isn’t, reset the game and try again.
6. Travel again to the area where the Mass Outbreak is occurring and save your game again! You must do this to keep the Shiny table moving. You must save your game EVERY TIME you enter the area to hunt. Not doing so will recycle the same Pokémon over and over.

In short: Find Outbreak, Save, Hunt, Restart, Find Outbreak, Save, Hunt, Restart…
