Pokémon Legends: Arceus may be an all-new kind of Pokémon experience, but some things are staying the same. Just like Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl before it, Trainers will be able to access some bonus content for having play data from other titles in the series on their Nintendo Switch. Among them are Legendary Pokémon and customization outfits that come from every pair of Pokémon games that have come to the system.

This includes the Mythical Pokémon Darkrai, who was not available in BDSP on their launch. Anyone interested in obtaining the Pitch-Black Pokémon will be covered by its inclusion in Legends: Arceus!

Where to find Darkrai in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

To access Darkrai, you’ll need to have a play record from Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Pokémon Shining Pearl on your Switch. This will grant you access to a special research request where you’ll be able to encounter Darkrai in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

You can accept this request from an NPC in Jubilife Village after you have seen the game’s credits.

After accepting this request, you’ll be given a location where you can then go to track down Darkrai. Fly over there and seek this Gen IV Mythical out!

How to catch Darkrai in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

After you’ve completed Mission 19: A New Day Dawns, head over to the Galaxy Team Building. Inside, enter Professor Laventon’s office and interact with the board to get Request 93: The Darksome Nightmare. After accepting the quest, head over to Coronet Highlands and head north. You’ll find Darkrai between Clamberclaw Cliffs and Lonely Springs inside a ravine. Once you walk into the ravine, a spooky cutscene will play.

Darkrai is a tricky Mythical to catch. It will not only run from you, but will also disappear if you toss Poké Balls at it. To combat this, you’ll need to use the rocks in the area to sneak around Darkrai. Once you’re in range to throw a Poké Ball, toss it at its back and — with any luck — you’ll stun it and trigger a battle.

Darkrai is Level 70 in its encounter. Once you’ve whittled down its health, toss a Ball at it to make the Pitch-Black Pokémon your own.
