One of the main talking points about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, even all these years later, is the fact that there are 900 Korok Seeds to collect. You bring it up and even people who are vaguely familiar with the game will remark “Isn’t that the game with like [insert random absurd number] collectibles?” It is a pretty fair assessment, as 900 of any collectible is a lot, especially when finding them all requires solving a plethora of puzzles across a huge map.
In the wake of the release of Breath of the Wild’s sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the question on everyone’s mind is surely “how many Koroks will I need to find this time around?”
How many Koroks are in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
You’d expect the sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time to ramp up in every aspect, including collectibles. 900 Koroks is a huge number to top though, so the sequel matched it instead, with Tears of the Kingdom having 900 Koroks for players to collect throughout the expanded world of Hyrule. Tears of the Kingdom did find a way to expand on the Korok-collecting adventure, however, providing some brand new puzzle types to solve when collecting Korok Seeds.
What are the new ways to find Koroks in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom introduces a few new puzzles for players to solve to get Korok Seeds:
Dandelions
As they explore Hyrule, players will happen upon dandelions sticking up from the ground, usually near a cliff. Attacking the dandelion will cause one of its seeds to float off the cliff, which players will then need to chase down and catch, by pressing A, before it hits the ground. A successful catch will reward players with a Korok Seed.
Ascend Puzzles
With Link’s new Ascend ability comes a brand new Korok Puzzle type to solve. During your exploration, some ceilings and outcroppings will have stumps attached to them, featuring leaf imprints pointing towards the center of the stump. Using the new Ascend ability to send Link up through the stump will reward the player with a Korok Seed.
Pull the Cork
Another Korok Puzzle type dotted around Hyrule are sets of corks connected to each other via chain, with one cork connected to a log, and the other cork just kind of sitting there. Players need to find a way to use the free cork to pull the other cork out of the log it’s stuck in. You can usually accomplish this using Link’s new Ultrahand ability, whether you want to attach the free cork to a horse, boat, or other contraption and pull it in a direction opposite the log.
Reuniting Korok friends
The most adorable and entertaining Korok Puzzle type in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom involves reuniting two Korok friends who have been separated from one another. Thes Koroks are easily identified by their enormous backpacks. Speaking to one of them will show players where the other Korok is, and then it will be up to the player to figure out how to reunite them, usually accomplished via Link’s new Ultrahand ability.
