Alcremie, the sentient stack of whipped cream cuteness, was revealed fairly early on in Pokémon Sword and Shield’s pre-release period. Later on, we caught a glimpse of it with different decor and coloration, and now with the games out in the wild, we know just how to get the Alcremie of your dreams! Read on for our comprehensive guide on where to catch its earlier evolution, what you need to cook up something special, and the special touch that gives this Pokémon a whole suite of sweet styles and flavors.
Catch yourself a Milcery
The first step to a more unique Alcremie is to catch its pre-evolved form – Milcery. These dolloped dears can be found most easily on Route 4, though they won’t show up roaming around the overworld. You’ll have to stumble on one via an “!” encounter, though thankfully they aren’t too rare a find. They can also be found reliably and at higher levels in the Bridge Field and Giant’s Mirror sections of the Wild Area, though only when there’s fog.
Earn your Sweet decoration of choice
Like many other Pokémon, Milcery requires a held item to evolve. In this case it’s a decorative Sweet, of which there are seven varieties. These can most reliably be gotten from Battle Cafes located in Galar’s three largest cities – Motostoke, Hammerlocke, and Wyndon. You can battle here once a day, and upon victory you’ll receive an item. It’s not a guarantee, though, as I’ve gotten multiple Whipped Dreams and even Exp. Candies as well.
Getting a Sweet shouldn’t be too bad, but it’s getting the Sweet you want that’s pretty much a roll of the dice. Keep your fingers crossed as you try, but in the meantime we have a list of the seven varieties:
- Strawberry Sweet (red)
- Berry Sweet (blue)
- Love Sweet (pink)
- Star Sweet (yellow)
- Clover Sweet (green)
- Flower Sweet (orange)
- Ribbon Sweet (purple)
Whip that cream
The final step is what makes Milcery’s evolution into Alcremie truly unique. If you didn’t know, it’s possible to rotate the control stick to make your character spin in place, ending with Leon’s trademark Charizard pose. That spin is the secret ingredient in evolving Milcery, for if you have a Milcery holding a Sweet in your party and perform this spin, you’ll stir it up and evolve it on the spot!
Adding a whole other layer to this evolution method, factors like how long you spin in place, which direction you rotate the stick, and what time it is will add some flavor and color to your new Alcremie. There are nine different outcomes, which when paired with the seven Sweets you can decorate it with gives Alcremie a grand total of 63 different forms!
If you’re nervous about getting the timing and direction down (or if you just want to experiment) we recommend saving manually before you try. Each of these flavors even has their own Pokédex entry, so gathering up multiple Alcremie is encouraged. Here’s the list of the nine different flavors and how to get them:
- Vanilla Cream: spin clockwise quickly, daytime
- Ruby Cream: spin counter-clockwise quickly, daytime
- Matcha Cream: spin clockwise quickly, nighttime
- Salted Cream: spin counter-clockwise quickly, nighttime
- Caramel Swirl: spin clockwise for more than five seconds, daytime
- Ruby Swirl: spin counter-clockwise for more than five seconds, daytime
- Lemon Cream: spin clockwise for more than five seconds, nighttime
- Mint Cream: spin counter-clockwise for more than five seconds, nighttime
- Rainbow Swirl: spin counter-clockwise for more than 10 seconds, dusk (7 p.m. to 8 p.m.)
That last flavor, Rainbow Swirl, is the most striking and unique of all. It’s the only one that requires an extra long spin and a more specific timeframe. There are some reports that dawn will work, but to be safe we’re going to stick with dusk (between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. seems reliable) as the preferred time period. One of our own writers, Jaxson Tapp, had success spinning counter-clockwise for more than 20 seconds between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. As people learn more about this unique Fairy type, we’ll update with more definitive info.
On top of that, there’s its Shiny coloration to consider and how that could interact with this unique evolution method. This is sure to make Shiny Alcremie and Milcery highly sought after!
