After teasing that DLC might be on the table for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Square Enix revealed during today’s State of Play presentation that its upcoming trilogy closer will, indeed, receive two story DLC packs. Scheduled for Winter 2027 and Spring 2028, respectively, information about what DLC pack will contain is still mum. We do know that the first pack will focus on Sephiroth, and the second is titled “Vincent & the Turks.” That certainly sounds like a “Dirge of Cerberus” expansion.
This information sort of leaked back in July when Final Fantasy VII Revelation was added to the Epic Games Store. While there were a bunch of empty placeholder spots and listings for things like accessory packs, Epic’s backend mentioned “Story Expansion Pass.” That implied there would be something more substantial than extra trinkets and costumes, which Square Enix confirmed today. We don’t know how long these packs will be, but FF7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi already confirmed that any DLC will be a spinoff from the main story. You can comfortably play Revelation and finish out the remake saga without worrying that bits and pieces are being held back for the expansions.
If you’re a megafan of Final Fantasy, you’ve likely eyed the announced Collector’s Edition which includes these story expansions with it. The expansions will also be available individually when they release, so you won’t be forced to buy both if you only care about one character or the other. There’s no pricing information yet, but since the main game is $70, I imagine these packs will be $20-30 each. It’s going to be quite some time before the second releases, though, so we’ll find out more information in the coming year.
