As part of a big interview with Automaton, Final Fantasy VII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi was asked whether Square Enix had plans for DLC for its upcoming remake trilogy closer. While the idea has been floated around in several different interviews always, nothing has been said about what that DLC would entail. It would be kind of ridiculous to make players wait for nearly a decade only to not conclude the story in the base game, but that won’t be the case. As Hamaguchi explains, any potential DLC will be a spinoff of the main game rather than a conclusion to the story.
Starting off, Hamaguchi lays things out firmly by saying, “The story will be concluded within the main game. We’re serious about concluding the series with Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and we’re proceeding with development with that goal in mind.” Elaborating further, he says, “If we were to hypothetically release any DLC, we would likely want to create a kind of spinoff focused on a specific character that depicts their untold stories, kind of like what we did with Yuffie with Final Fantasy VII Episode Intermission, and I think there is demand for it among fans.”
Now, that doesn’t mean DLC plans have actually been finalized yet. He notes that if “there’s genuine demand for it,” then Square Enix will consider expanding the game with an expansion. For the time being, though, the goal is to finish Revelation so that players who have been waiting for this story’s final chapter will get the satisfaction of a conclusion. Realistically, the Yuffie DLC for Final Fantasy VII Remake wasn’t made simply to sell DLC, but as a prep for porting over Remake to PlayStation 5 (the DLC is not available on PlayStation 4).

Currently, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is planned for release in early 2027 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
