This morning’s Nintendo Direct showcased our first look at a brand new HD-2D game from Square Enix, Final Fantasy Resonance. This first HD-2D title in the Final Fantasy series is a full-fledged RPG based on the story arc of the now-defunct Final Fantasy mobile game, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.

In a classic-feeling RPG adventure, you’ll protect the crystals sustaining the world from a dark knight named Veritas. With striking pixel art visuals, turn-based combat, and cinematic summons and attacks, Final Fantasy Resonance looks to be a great first HD-2D entry for the Final Fantasy series.

Final Fantasy Resonance launches on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and Steam on October 22nd, 2026 for $49.99. There are also Digital Deluxe and Collector’s Editions of that game. The Digital Deluxe Edition will be available for $59.99 and features several bonus in-game items, while the Collector’s Edition retails for $209.99 and features an artbook, soundtrack CD, and a promotional card from the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game. Both the Digital Standard Edition and the Digital Deluxe Edition are available to pre-order for various platforms on the official Final Fantasy Resonance site, though strangely, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions are not yet available.
