In a rather vague announcement during Nintendo’s Direct this morning, the company unveiled what it is calling “DK Challenge” for Switch Online subscribers. Exclusive to owners of the Nintendo Switch 2, DK Challenge is a series of challenges across all the Donkey Kong games available on Switch Online, and even Donkey Kong Bananza. Players are tasked with playing a random game and surmounting different tasks to earn cards and other unlockables for their profiles.

Accessed through the Switch Online app from the console’s home screen, you’ll find a list of different tasks you can complete that see you doing things like jumping over gaps in Donkey Kong Country’s mine cart levels to saving DK from a level in Donkey Kong Jr. If you own Donkey Kong Bananza, exclusive challenges for that game will also be available. The challenges have a range of difficulty options, from simple obstacles to what Nintendo has dubbed “Developer Challenges.”

Strangely, though, DK Challenge will only be available for a limited time. Starting later today, the event will run until September 1st. Once it’s over, you’ll keep all the cards that you’ve unlocked, but you won’t be able to earn any other ones. I’m not sure if more challenges will be added as the event rolls on, but I guess this is a fun little way to get subscribers to check out Nintendo’s back catalog. It also reminds me of NES Remix somewhat.

When does DK Challenge release?

DK Challenge starts today on Switch 2 and will be running until September.
