Square Enix announced in May 2021 that they were remaking the all-time classic Dragon Quest III with HD-2D graphics, the high fidelity sprite work and lighting style found in games like Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy (and their own remake of Live A Live). Now over two years later, how’s development going? Pretty swimmingly, says creator Yuji Horii.

In turn, he’s “still” not able to say much about Dragon Quest XII. While the lack of detail could mean theoretically anything, its juxtaposition to steady progress for the DQIII remake is a mite worrying. Hopefully development isn’t suffering any major setbacks.

Horii also touched on upcoming spinoff Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, which releases December 1st.
