Arriving over two decades since the release of its predecessor, New Pokémon Snap is a rather late sequel to the Nintendo 64 spin-off, though that didn’t seem to affect demand for the new title. The game immediately soared to the number one spot in the UK, and according to GamesIndustry.biz head Christopher Dring, the game became the country’s best-selling retail game for April in just two days.

Dring explores the impressive sales data further in his article, where he reveals that New Pokémon Snap “sold over four times as many copies at launch than the original managed.” The game’s opening week performed 2.5 times better than another recent Pokémon spin-off, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, and is the third biggest Nintendo Switch launch of the year behind Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and Monster Hunter Rise.

As for more recent competition, the game also dominated the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal, which shared New Pokémon Snap’s April 30th launch date.

Besides Snap taking the top spot, other Nintendo titles also make up half of the top ten retail sales in the UK:

  • #3: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (sales up 10%)
  • #4: Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
  • #7: Minecraft on Switch
  • #9: Ring Fit Adventure

Last week, we debuted two new original video features based on the Pokémon Snap series, including Tom’s Game Boy Color demake animation and a showcase of his Jason’s original Pokémon Snap Station being converted into a Nintendo Switch-compatible, New Pokémon Snap printer.
