With the Nintendo Switch 2 now a year old and the future of the economy looking a little bleak, all eyes are on Nintendo’s upcoming Direct presentation to persuade individuals to stay invested in The Big N’s ecosystem. I wouldn’t say the first year for the new device was a roaring success, but considering it will soon be $500 and games have defaulted to $70 each, Nintendo is going to have to do a lot to convince people to buy a Switch 2 anytime soon. If you already have one, then the task shifts to maintaining that interest beyond the honeymoon period.
We’ve seen a ton of speculation for Nintendo’s future plans from the usual suspect on the internet. Notable leaker Nate the Hate, for instance, is claiming that a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is in the works, not to mention buzz is stirring about a brand-new 3D Mario game following Super Mario Odyssey from nine years ago. What can we realistically expect from the June 9th, 2026, Direct?
Most of my predictions in the past have been a bunch of hogwash, but I do feel there are a few potential games that make too much sense at this point. As Nintendo Wire has done in the past, we’ll list out any games people are rumor milling on and give it a rating for plausibility. Since we have no insider knowledge, do not take this list as gospel or confirmation of your deepest desires.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake
Knowledge of a potential Ocarina of Time remake doesn’t date that far back, having only first popped up earlier this year in March. Leaker Nate the Hate merely claimed it was happening, while a separate leaker named Nash Weedle claimed it would be on the level of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Those second claims seem pretty outlandish considering Nintendo’s track record with remakes, but I suppose you can never know.

What do I think? Personally, too much speculation is swirling around this that I believe a remake is happening. We already have Star Fox 64 getting a remake at the end of this month, and Nintendo will likely want some big game out for the holiday season. The live-action Legend of Zelda film is scheduled for release next summer, too, so getting people ready for that with a remake of a beloved classic makes sense.
If you’re thinking this doesn’t add up as Ocarina of Time is playable via NSO’s N64 app, we only need to look at The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Nintendo did a full remake of that in 2018 only to then include Link’s Awakening in the Game Boy app when it launched on NSO in 2023. Heck, Star Fox 64 is playable via NSO and is still getting a remake. Realistically, Ocarina of Time remake is happening, it just might not release in 2026.

Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil Remake Ports
During Nate the Hate’s recent podcast, he discusses the potential that Capcom will announce ports for its Resident Evil remakes and even Devil May Cry 5. He also states that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be revealed for Switch 2, but I would almost call that a given. The other games, I’m not completely sure of, but there is some logic behind the guess.
Capcom has been a huge supporter of the Switch 2 and has even made it a point to release new games day-and-date on Nintendo’s platform. We saw this with Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata just this year. Capcom has been a huge supporter of the Switch 2 and has even made it a point to release new games day-and-date on Nintendo’s platform. We saw this with Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata just this year. The Code Veronica remake, Resident Evil Veronica, will be hitting Switch 2 alongside its other versions, too, so why wouldn’t Capcom want its older RE Engine games on the system? It’s already done the work of making more graphically advanced titles run, so surely porting Resident Evil 2 Remake and the like would be easier to do.

As for Onimusha, I really think Nintendo had Capcom hold off on announcing the game for the console. When it was revealed to be in development, Nintendo hadn’t even unveiled the Switch 2 yet. Now that we’re a few months away from its release, Nintendo probably wants to make it a big point of this Direct to show that Onimusha will be available on its platform. This tracks with some games from yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase that were conspicuously missing Switch logos (such as Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, which is confirmed for Switch).

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Doom: The Dark Ages will show up
This is a rumor I’m not 100% certain on, but that at least makes some sense. Nate the Hate claims that Nintendo will be showing footage of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Doom: The Dark Ages tomorrow. We already know that Bethesda is porting Oblivion Remastered to the system, but the latest Doom game has not been announced. Microsoft also didn’t mention anything about a Switch 2 port yesterday, though as mentioned above, that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

As for both games making an appearance during this Direct, it does seem reasonable. As with Capcom, Bethesda and Microsoft have been supporting the Switch 2 with ports where it makes sense. We recently saw the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, not to mention have received Switch 2 ports for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition. While not every newer Bethesda game has made the jump (Starfield and Fallout 76 are missing), I could see this Direct being the point where the publisher pulls back the curtain a little.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 gets highlighted along with Diablo IV
I’m not sure I even need to write more about this, but Nate the Hate is stating that the new Call of Duty will be present during tomorrow’s Direct. I’m almost certain that will happen, even if I’m not 100% convinced. Microsoft just announced the game and has only shown small snippets of gameplay, so I don’t think it would give an exclusive to Nintendo to reveal more. What we’re likely to see is the same trailer and reconfirmation of its Switch 2 debut.

The other part, here, is that Diablo IV will be unveiled for the system, and I’m less convinced there. I know Blizzard and Nintendo collaborated in the past for Diablo III on Switch, but it doesn’t seem to have been wildly successful. Microsoft is also starting to pull away from porting its games everywhere, as evidenced by Gears of War: E-Day being an Xbox console exclusive, so I don’t really know. Still, Call of Duty is more than likely, so this rumor seems legit.

The Duskbloods gets a holiday 2026 release date
Announced as a Switch 2 exclusive last year, FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods has been absent from any streams or presentations since it was first unveiled. When this exclusive new game was revealed, it also came alongside the announcement that Elden Ring would be getting a Switch 2 port. As we now know, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will finally be releasing in August, almost a full year after it was originally intended to hit Switch 2.

I’m pretty certain The Duskbloods will be present during this Direct, but I’m almost sure that it will be releasing in 2027. My speculation is that FromSoftware encountered issues porting its in-house engine to the Switch 2’s more limited architecture, which meant pushing everything back to ensure smoother performance. With Elden Ring only now crossing the finish line, I doubt that The Duskbloods is going to land in the same year. From wouldn’t want to cannibalize its own sales by having two products out within three months of one another.

Sega to reveal more Yakuza/Like a Dragon ports
I haven’t actually heard many rumors regarding this, but there is some buzz that Sega will be announcing more ports of past Yakuza/Like a Dragon games at tomorrow’s Direct. Since the Yakuza titles have managed to appear on pretty much every console, not to mention the Switch 2 has versions of Yakuza 0 and the three Kiwami games, I guess it makes some sense. What throws a wrench into things is that the upcoming Stranger than Heaven is not confirmed for Switch 2, and doesn’t seem to be making the jump.

I’ll save you all from an explanation of the current controversy surrounding the Yakuza games, but series producer Masayoshi Yokoyama has stated that Yakuza Kiwami 3 will be the last in the Kiwami line. While that doesn’t suddenly invalidate games such as Yakuza 4 and onward, he seemingly intends to make sequels to Kiwami 3 that completely rewrite the history of the series.
If we go with that knowledge, I don’t believe that Sega will be acknowledging the original Yakuza series anymore. Heck, when Kiwami 3 released, the original version of Yakuza 3 was delisted from individual purchase on all platforms. It is only available in the “Yakuza Series Complete” pack, essentially rendering it prohibitively expensive to even try.

Kingdom Hearts Complete Collection to be released
Following with Nate the Hate’s claims, he states during his latest podcast that Square Enix is likely to release a Kingdom Hearts Complete Collection for Switch 2. His main basis for this is that the publisher recently removed the Cloud versions of the games from the eShop, rendering the series unplayable on Nintendo’s consoles (unless we consider Melody of Memory as important… which it might be). I don’t think this is going to happen at all.
My reason for saying that is, while Square Enix has been supporting the Switch 2, it hasn’t been doing it with older ports. Every game released from the publisher thus far has been either a brand-new title or a cross-generation port. Something like Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake getting a Switch 2 upgrade is an anomaly as older games like Octopath Traveller, Triangle Strategy, and even Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion do not have updates. Dragon Quest XI was recently announced to be getting updated, but a port for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S happened a few years back, so that adds up.
I can’t say with absolute certainty that Kingdom Hearts will never get a Switch 2 release, but I don’t believe it is happening anytime soon. It’s probably not happening tomorrow, either.
