As many had predicted for the past few months, Nintendo has announced a price increase for the Switch 2 in correlation to current economic difficulties. Effective September 1, 2026, the Switch 2 will be increasing in price by $50 for the base model, taking it from $449.99 to $499.99. The price increase is coming to other regions, as well. In Canada, the console will go for $679.99, with Europe increasing to €499.99. The company doesn’t mention whether bundle pricing will be affected, though I assume that is the case too.

The original Switch will not be seeing any price adjusts overseas, but in Japan, both the Switch 2 and original console will be increasing in price effective May 25, 2026. The Japanese-only Switch 2 will increase ¥10,000 to its new ¥59,980 MSRP. The Switch OLED will be ¥47,980, the regular Switch ¥43,980, and the Switch Lite ¥29,980. Surprisingly, prices for Switch Online are also increasing in Japan, though nothing has been mentioned for other regions.

“We understand that pricing changes can be challenging for customers and deeply appreciate the continued enthusiasm of our fans for Nintendo products and experiences,” writes the company. I suppose it was inevitable that this would happen, though Nintendo seemingly put it off as long as it could. By the time the console increases in price, it will have been on sale for just over a year.
