In a surprise announcement this morning, Bandai Namco revealed that last year’s Once Upon a Katamari will be receiving a new DLC expansion. Bringing 10 new quests to the game, along with brand-new songs and cousins, the DLC will be available on all platforms starting October 8th, 2026. Seemingly, this is bringing the Apple Arcade exclusive levels to consoles and PC, which is great news. That’s not all the news though.

Nintendo Switch 2 users will finally be able to play Once Upon a Katamari with a native port to the console. Also available on October 8th, the Switch 2 version boasts higher frame rates, increased resolution, and mouse control support. Weirdly, an update for the previous Switch version running on Switch 2 will also bring mouse controls and better frame rates, which seems kind of redundant when the Switch 2 version is free for previous owners. Maybe I’m missing something there, as the new DLC has a split between Switch 1 and 2, but I don’t know.

If you’re worried about save data, don’t be. Bandai Namco has confirmed that save data from the Switch 1 version will transfer over, so you can pick up the game right where you left off and jump into the DLC. For the price of free, that’s certainly what I would hope most Switch 2 upgrades offer (ahem Square Enix).
