File this one under “Ew, gross,” but Sega is celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise by producing a life-sized figure that includes his DNA. I don’t know what that even means considering Sonic isn’t real… unless… Has Sega figured out how to convert digital beings into real ones? Are those live-action Sonic movies not made with CG, but a real Sonic running around on set?

As PC Gamer reports, Sega partnered with the Lom Baby project from Transeeds Inc., an artist collective based out of Japan that creates “bioproducts” which fuse fiction with reality. Earlier this year, the same company partnered with Capcom to create the T-Virus, which reads like the start of some dystopian future, but was more a marketing stunt. Utilizing the same technology, Sega has created “the essence of Sonic—who has raced through the ages—has been brought into the real world as ‘DNA.’” Um…

As you can see in the promotional video, Sonic’s DNA rests within a chaos emerald embedded in his chest. “The DNA encapsulated within the Chaos Emerald symbolizes that ‘Sonic’s core’ will endure, never fading, into the future,” proclaims Sega. I mean, I guess it does do that, but I’m more concerned about the possibility that this statue will come to life now.

If you happen to be in Japan, this apparently real version of Sonic will be on display at the Tokyo Sega Store starting on June 23rd, 2026. I’m not sure how long it will be there, but then I can’t imagine Sega would ever get rid of this. Wouldn’t throwing away the figure technically be murder?
