Sega has released never-before-seen concept art for Sonic Adventure, which shows some early versions of the game’s characters and settings.
Notably, the designs of Sonic and Knuckles look similar to how they appeared in the “classic” era of the Sonic franchise – which includes the original Genesis trilogy and Sonic CD – before the final release of Adventure gave its cast a visual overhaul as the series transitioned from 2D to 3D.

There are also alternative designs for Amy and Dr. Robotnik’s Egg Carrier aircraft, as well as detailed art of areas such as Mystic Ruins and Windy Valley.
The concept art release is part of Sega’s ongoing 35th anniversary celebrations for the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Plans for 2026 include brand collaborations, limited merchandise, live concert celebrations, art exhibits, museum pop-ups, fan meetups, and a new podcast.
Sonic Adventure originally launched on the Sega Dreamcast in 1998. The game saw a port to the Nintendo GameCube in 2003 called Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut, which featured updated graphics, new missions, a playable Metal Sonic, and more.
