A lot of folks I know were scratching their heads when today’s Nintendo Direct opened with Rhythm Heaven Groove. Meanwhile, I was smiling and snapping along to the series’ trademark music and soaking in its charm.

Yes, perhaps Rhythm Heaven (ironically enough in this case) doesn’t need an introduction. Its mission statement speaks for itself — it’s weird, it’s wonderful, and it’s welcome on any Nintendo system that’ll take it.

We got a look at new rhythm games (both in a trailer and as part of today’s Treehouse Live) but the real star seemed to be multiplayer games for up to four players. Some of these are familiar to longtime fans, like Rhythm Tweezers and Ninja Bodyguard. There’ll be over 30 co-op and competitive rhythm games to compliment the over 80 single-player ones.

Rhythm Heaven Groove release date

Rhythm Heaven Groove will finally arrive on July 2nd for the original Nintendo Switch and playable on Switch 2. You can pre-order your copy for Nintendo Switch on Amazon today.
