Speculation about a potential Princess Peach spinoff film is gaining traction following the discovery of an Illumination employee’s LinkedIn profile.

Found by X user @itsamedfffaz, the profile (which has since been edited) included a “Senior Character Rig Designer” position for an “Untitled P P Movie.” Nintendo fans are speculating that the initials may stand for “Princess Peach,” which could hint that a spinoff of the animated Mario films is currently in the works.

@itsamedfffaz explained that similar, two-letter codenames have been used for other Illumination films. Usually, these seem to be based on the first two letters of a keyword in a movie’s official title, such as “M A” for “Mario” or “M I” for “Minions.”

Of course, “P P” standing for Princess Peach would bend this rule slightly, being initials for two separate words rather than being taken from one. Still, since it’s difficult to imagine another word or name beginning with “Pp,” Princess Peach still seems to be the most natural fit.

Some have pointed out that another possibility for “P P” could be Poppy Prescott – a character from Illumination’s Despicable Me series – but @itsamedfffaz argued that another listing titled “P O” (for “Poppy”) seems to have that covered already.

Spinoffs of the Mario films certainly seem viable, given the success of the mainline films. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie – which is currently showing in theaters worldwide – recently crossed the $800 million mark at the global box office, making it the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far.
