Nestled in the middle of today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, longtime Nintendo producer Yoshiaki Koizumi quietly announced that Pikmin 4 would be getting a new Switch 2 Edition. Rumored for some time now, the lengthily titled Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy is more than just a mere resolution boost. Set to release on November 12th, 2026, the first new addition shown off as the ability to use the Switch 2’s microphone to command your doggy companion, Oatchi. That’s cute.
The meat and potatoes of this new version comes in the form of Dandori Academy. I’m not familiar with Pikmin 4 to know if that was previously included, but on Switch 2, players will have access to 72 new Dandori stages with three difficulty levels to master. That is a pretty substantial bit of new content. It gets even better with new exams every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as well as online leaderboards to challenge your friends and strangers.
As with previous Switch 2 Editions, Pikmin 4’s upgrade will be available digitally for owners of the original Switch version. A new physical edition will be available for people who want everything on a cartridge, which is also great for late adopters of the main game.
