Ever the curious company, Nintendo has shadow dropped a new update for Pikmin 3 Deluxe that includes official Switch 2 support. Not a new “Switch 2 Edition” like many speculated a year ago, update version 1.2.0 simply adds support for higher resolution output via the Nintendo Switch 2. Think of it like the recent Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 release, which was updated to output in 4K when played on Switch 2.

As part of its patch notes, Nintendo writes, “Added support for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution televisions, resulting in a sharper image.” This means both handheld and docked mode have seen a bump in resolution, though it’s not clear to what. I imagine the game will render in 4K much like Splatoon 3 did, but we’ll have to wait for concrete information.

Along with increased resolution support, Pikmin 3 Deluxe is now compatible with GameShare via GameChat for one of its multiplayer modes. The “Bingo Battle” mini-game is accessible both locally and through GameChat with, I assume, four-player support. Weirdly enough, Local Play is not available on the original Switch, which makes me believe it must need extra horsepower to function properly.

Update version 1.2.0 should currently be live on the Nintendo eShop for Pikmin 3 Deluxe. It’s not the “Switch 2 Edition” people may have wanted, but I’m all for free updates to classic Switch games. Now let’s see if Pikmin 4 gets the same treatment.
